The location is first-class (once you've got there), very little traffic on the road below the hotel, so very quiet. Many walks around the hotel and in the area of the parc des volcans. But equally for the lazy there are extensive, quiet grounds to sit in, read, relax. The evening meal in the restaurant is a high spot of... More

We expected a Bar with accommodation, what a surprise! set in a Valley which most of the rooms overlook. This is a HOTEL of about the turn of the century and was modernised in 1990s to a VERY high standard. Rooms are all with sound proofing wall paper, good sized beds clean with all facilities. The restaurant is below sight... More

Charming, delightful , silence and quietness are the first words that came to my mind when you just arrived at the Hotel, you step out of the car and you immediately enter into a new atmosphere extremely pleasant. The Main building is typical house that you will find in the Cantal fully renovated with exquisite taste, keeping the rural style... More

Hostellerie de la Maronne is just delightful. The staff were extremely helpful. The rooms are lovely and the lounge area with the chess set, bookcase and beautiful furniture is wonderful. The restaurant is top quality with 5 star service and food to match. So happy we stumbled upon this little gem with views of rolling green hills.

We stayed here for two nights in August 2013. Very comfortable hotel with excellent food and service. Beautiful gardens with a swimming pool. The view from our room was stunning and tranquil and we would stay here again without question. The hotel has a quiet and elegant ambiance, Salers is the nearby charming village.

This elegant hotel is in a delightful spot, with views across the Maronne vally, towards the Parc des Volcans, and only a few kilometres from Salers - a fascinating Auvergnat village. Monsieur Decock and his team were very welcoming and friendly; the room was spacious, cool and comfortable; and all meals were delicious and of excellent quality. The grounds are... More

We spent 10 nights at this establishment in a "suite soleil levant" with terrace facing the valley. We chose the half-board option, which included breakfast and 4-course dinner each evening (starter, main course, cheese course, dessert). We let the waiter chose our wine each evening, and were never disappointed -- all excellent, and decently priced wines. Unlike the negative comment... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A superb valley where the matonne flows peacefully. A Country house sitting on a hillside You have arrived in Le Theil. Set in the middle of the country side, empty save for a few scattered barns or burons, it is well worth the detour. Rare are the places where the milky way provides such a nocturnal show as here. Where the eye is lost in a profusion of greens amongst the rolling landscape. A large park with pretty walks awaits you. ... more   less
