I'm really surprised at most of the reviews on here, did they stay in the same hotel? It's definitely not "excellent" but far from horrible! Mary doesn't have that many hotels so you'll have very little choice, the same goes for restaurants in the nearby area. The rooms were ok, but the best space is the entrance where you can... More

I stayed here for two nights while on a group tour. We arrived very late after a rough day, and the room was totally dysfunctional. The bed lacked a top sheet between the nasty comforter and bottom sheet. The carpet was covered in cigarette burns. There was no direct window but an awkward shared, closed balcony. The bathroom had literally... More

The largest room is a single queen or two single beds (smaller than a twin). For a family of 4 (two adults, two children) we had to get 2 rooms. The doors do not have a dead bolt. If someone has a key, they can get in. We were in rooms 209 and 208. The ceilings have water damage. The... More

I would surely like to know who wrote the "average" and WHAT "very good" reviews, because I can't imagine anyone saying those things thinking they were the truth. I have stayed in $15 a night hotels in Thailand, Mexico,Turkey and many hostels all over the world, including Russia, and the Stan's and compared to this dreadful, dirty, stinky place they... More

I guess this is a typical soviet era hotel. Enormous building, made to impress (which is does as the streets are very wide and there aren't a lot of buildings in the neighbourhood). The food is also soviet style (which I personally like; if you want to eat European food visit Europe, if you want soviet style food, visit Turkmenistan).... More

This Soviet-era hotel is just awfulness on an epic scale. The outdoor façade is nice and the lobby and front desk reception cordial enough, but then the nightmare quickly begins. The sad looking dorm-style rooms have uncomfortable beds and carpeting that looks like it hasn't been changed (or cleaned) since the hotel opened. The bleak looking shower was adequate enough... We stayed only one night here so cannot judge too much. Its ok for a stay when passing; looks dead except when a group arrives all of a sudden.Hotel looks ok from outside but once inside you realise its more like a hostel standard. There was no wi-fi or internet of any sort. Our bathroom was smelling foul which crept... More

Like most other adjacent buildings, they look great from the outside, especially at night, but are rather substandard inside. The rooms are modest comparable to a western guest house. The lobby, however, had a grandiose allure. The hotel was ok on local standards and probably one of the best in town. Turkmenistan has many absurd laws, one of them is... More

In fairness to Mary, there are not a whole lot of options available - this hotel was able to provide a comfortable bed at the end of a long hot day. The shower was pretty poor with limited hot water and the doors didn't close, so the bathroom floor got drowned. Breakfast wasn't fantastic and the prayer calls from the... More

The lobby was probably the best part - light and airy, cleaner than the rooms, with a high, barrel-vaulted ceiling. We travelled with a group so do not know the cost for the room, but whatever it was, it was too much! Our second-floor room had a very dirty carpet, a hard bed with awful bedding which did not fit.... More
