Overlooking Hoshisuna beach, this pension has the perfect place. It's a friendly homestay with a small restaurant, shop and snorkelling equipment rental. The beach is just some steps away. We stayed for 4 nights in a western style room on the first floor, with balcony and a very nice bay view. The room was spacious for Japanese standards, light and... More

Hoshinosuna is my new favorite beach in the world. The sand is soft (and shaped like stars), the beach is broad, there are not too many people, the snorkeling is excellent, the reef has layers of natural protection from the open ocean, there are lots of beautiful rock outcroppings, and the water is warm, clear, and shallow. There are no... More

We stayed here 3 nights in May 2010 as part of a 3 week Japan round trip. The pension is a super friendly little place, and we had a very nice Western room with a big balcony and a breathtaking view over the beach, just a few metres away. Room was basic but clean and very spacious for Japan. Private... More

We got a huge Western room here, with 2 double beds, and a balcony overlooking the beach - amazing views, though the facilities were a little basic (nice to have a kettle though). It was our second trip to Hoshinosuna for the snorkelling, which is some of the best we've had in Japan, and our first time staying nearby. It... More

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a month long trip of the Yaeyama Islands. Pension is right on the beach (20m away maybe), Half our party stayed in a tatami room which had aircon, fridge, TV & an en-suit. The other half stayed in a twin which had an incredible view of honishinosuna beach, the room also had... More

Property was a bit tired and the back entrance view looked a bit army barracks but the room itself was spacious, clean, with a private but miniscule bathroom, large balcony with out of this world view. The beach has interesting rock pools when the tide is out with lots of fish, good snorkelling. The restaurant served really good local cooked... More

We expected something at least average quality based on the great reviews from here - we couldn't be more wrong. We stayed at a Japanese style room and it couldn't be more basic. The worst part was the thinnest (and old) mattress you can possibly encounter and we were bitten by bugs! The worst sleeping quality I've ever experienced! The... More

We arrived on the pier from Ishigaki, not knowing where to go. The Hoshinosuna minibus was there, offering a service we had not requested - a pattern that was to follow for the 4 days we were there. We had a medical problem and the staff were great - came with us to the clinic to explain to the doctor.... More
