The Windermere is well described as a very nice hotel with an old time feel. The view from the front porch is just amazing, with the lighthouse, and it is also the main shipping lane with huge 600 ft. freighters to small sailboats going right by. It is right on the main drag with main street going right by in... More

Two night stay was memorable. Great accommodations, pleasant staff and the quiet end of Main Street with a nice view. Great place to relax. Wifi in lobby and on the porch. Continental breakfast is basic as others have said but it's a short walk to get a full breakfast.

This is kind of a throwback hotel versus the newer venues likely to be found on the mainland. No TV or phones in rooms, no elevator so if you get a 3rd floor room pack light (which we did for a one night stay). Our room was very nice overlooking the lake and park right on the main street. We opened... More

We have stayed at the Windermere dozens of times throughout the years. It is our favorite. It does not have TV's in the rooms and, we especially like that when we are on the island. We read on the porch that looks right at the water. Very calming. The rooms are extra clean. We can't wait to get back. The... More

Stayed for two nights. Room overlooked the straights and park. Check-in was smooth and easy. Staff was very helpful. We had a party of 12 in six rooms and all were happy with the facility. Spent a lot of time on the large front porch that also overlooked the park and straights.

I just spent 7 of the best days of my life at the Windermere. After repeatedly experiencing bad service at the Grand Hotel, I decided to try a different place. I am so glad that I chose the Windermere. The hotel was picture-perfect, clean, ideally located and homey. Each member of the staff was welcoming, gracious and absolutely wonderful. I... More

Ok...it's a great location and looks beautiful, with the best front porch and view. The front desk clerk? Friendly as a mean pitbull. The man who met us and got our bags was the nicest. The "continental breakfast was stale, store bought donuts, apples and watery, warm juice. No TV in the bedroom... that would be ok if they had... More

This was our first time staying at the Windermere Hotel, 4th time staying overnight on the island. This is the best hotel we have stayed in. It's an older house like others but has up been updated and kept up without losing the old time feel. Very clean with big rooms. We had 2 queen size beds with 2 chairs... More

I've been curious about the hotel for years and am surprised it took me this long to stay there. It sits there in a great location near the end of Main Street, right across from the shore, shining in the sun like a big lemon behind its white picket fence. It's one of those old hotels that just beckons you... More

The first time my wife and I stayed at the Windermere in 1997, we were looking for a room with a view of the water for an affordable price. We were totally blown away by the breathtaking view of the strait from our 2nd floor room on that sunny afternoon when we arrived. We have been back 6 times since,... More
