This is our favorite campground in the Upper Peninsula. The sites are large and wooded. We try to stay here at least every couple of years for a week or more. The sunsets are spectacular and seating is provided to watch the sun going down over the water. It's also great that fire pits are on every site for those... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. Very family friendly park as I feel all the Michigan State campgrounds are. The sunsets are beautiful at this campground. The staff was very friendly. Most of the lots are shady.

My wife and I came up to the state park for a sunset. There was food available during the day and a sandy and rocky beach. There is a light house there. Rec Passport required. We decided to look at the campground and there are great views of Superior here and places to sit and look at lake. Everyone seemed... More

This is now our second favorite State park campground in Michigan. So many sites have a beautiful view of Lake Superior. There is a campsite for all here wether you like full sun or the feeling of shady seclusion. This park clearly caters to RV's with so many paved sites. We were tent camping and made our reservation by phone... More

We stayed here in a 35 ft travel trailer with 2 dogs at the beginning of June for 4 nights. We stayed right next to the bathrooms and campground host. Bathrooms were clean and they had 4 showers (2 outside, 1 in women's bathroom and 1 in men's bathroom). The inside women's bathroom was better suited for a child or... More

We have camped at McLain several times in the past and this is one of our favorite campgrounds. The beauty of Lake Superior can't be beat and the sunsets are spectacular. We stopped in yesterday close to sunset but the sun is much further south than a July sunset. Bring your snoeshoes or cross country skis and enjoy the tranquility... More

Took a chance coming here based on the reviews and had a really great time. The park is very clean, depending on where your site is you have lots of room in between neighbors. The sunsets are picture perfect and you can rock hunt down at the beach till no end. Copper Harbor is such a beautiful place to visit,... More

We had a wonderful weekend at McClain State Park. We camped in our camper and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful beach. We took a drive up to Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor. Make sure to stop at the jam and jelly place operated by monks that is on the road back to the campground from Eagle Harbor.

We visited the McLain State Park in the summer and winter. During the summer, we had a good time going to the light house (it is risky because of the rocks) and looking at agate rocks on the beach. In the winter, we enjoyed looking at the partly frozen Lake Superior and snow shoe-ing around the area.

It’s off peak so my friend just phoned in for reservation. Stayed in a mini cabin fronting Lake Superior. The staff was kind enough to warm it up prior to our arrival. Had a very pleasant stay. Few visitors at this time. For the nature trip and the splendid sunset that comes with a double bunk bed with mattresses, heaters,... More
