Rustic cabins well suited to the location. The private cabins looked nicer than the room we stayed in which seemed to have rather thin walls. Very basic accomodation but clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Family friendly. Breakfast was heavy on the carbs (no yogurt or fruit, but there were hard boiled eggs) but the warm blueberry breakfast bread... More

We were wandering around the upper peninsula of Michigan and stumbled on the town of Grand Marais, Michigan. The motel and cabins were indeed on a hilltop and provided a great view of Lake Superior. I wish we could have found the place earlier and stayed the whole week!

Our first stay at the Hilltop & we will definitely be back! Had motel Rm 10 "The Possum" it was on the end & quiet.Perfect for a couple & dog. Very nice kitchenette & large bathroom. Large backyard & 2 wooden decks to sit on - one overlooking lake.My only complaint was I missed cont'l breakfast bcz it was over... More

Hilltop had far more to offer than anything I've ever experienced when renting a cabin. There was cable TV on a flat screen, a heater and a fireplace, and an updated bathroom in the cabin. In the office every morning, there were homemade bread and other goodies baked fresh from scratch by the owner, along with coffee, milk, cereal, hard... More

The owner/operator was very nice and accommodating to our large group. Half our group stayed in the motel, with the other half staying in the cabins. Our cabin had everything we needed, and having the communal fire pit in the center of the cabins area was nice for a group outing. Breakfast was great - Jeanette had peach cobbler as... More

You won't find anything very fancy in Grand Marais; given that this is the UP and very rural, this small motel with cabins was just right for us. Reasonably priced, plenty of room with two queen sized beds and a bath, with handy fridge and microwave. It was very clean, beds were quite comfortable. Walls of motel very thin, could... More

My wife and I stayed here for a few days during our honeymoon. The staff was very nice and the accommodations were about what we expected. It's not a five star resort, but you won't find that in Northern Michigan. The rooms were clean and the cabins provided a nice view of Lake Superior/the Bay. The owner went out of... More

We used this spot for our headquarters for seeing Pictured Rocks. It is a nice quiet place in a nice quiet community. The mosquitos were fierce in June, the locals all said that was a lot worse than usual. There is a homemade breakfast available from 7 to 9 AM - not your motel continental breakfast, but homemade breakfast casserole... More

...This is the third year my wife and I have stayed in Grand Marais for the weekend. Past two years we stayed at a "motel" in town, but last year we decided to do a little exploring. We discovered a few really nice places to stay right outside of town, but Hilltop Cabins really impressed us. We stopped in to... More

We stayed in room 12 which was clean and well set out with 2 queen size beds, both of which were clean and had decent linen. Beds didn't seem too comfortable but having said that we both slept like logs and didn't ache on waking. A fly swatter was thoughtfully provided and came in very useful. A fan would've been... More
