The owners and operators of Rays Retreat and Country Inn are very friendly and the atmosphere is awsome with lots of parking. I stayed there for a snomobile trip. We stayed upstairs in the newer part, the rooms could of used a vacuming as the were dead flies on the floor and under the bed. The breakfast in the morning... more

Definately take a newer upstairs room, the downstairs rooms are the pits. The owner is as friendly and hospitable as they come, but lazy. He will not empty your garbage, you must take it out yourself. He will seldom vacumm or clean sinks etc. You will not get anything near traditional maid/room service. If you leave the A/C on, he... more

If you are looking for a snowmobile friendly place this is the only place to stay!! When they say free breakfast they mean a good hot one that keeps you going all day. You can't beat Mike and Ann Ray, They make you feel like part of their family and if you want a trip on the trails just ask.... more

I'm a snowmobiler and have been staying at Ray's since he opened the doors six years ago. You could not ask for a kinder and gentel man. His wife is fantastic, not only helping at the resort but she is on the fire department as a first responder PLUS she works in Gaylord at the finest nursing home in the... more

I've been their at all times of the year from Winter (where you can't find a better place to stay if you want to snowmobile in the upper lower peninsula, the hotel is just across the road... more

I found this place on TripAdvisor, and was impressed with the two reviews that were out there, given it was about $60 per night. We were trying to save some $ on our way through to Mackinaw Island, so booked a room for two nights. I have to admit, first impressions driving in were not that great, but our room... more

Made reservations prior to our trip, after a 6 hour ride, got there asked the owner to see the rooms. We originally reserved a king size bed, non smoking and when we got there said all he had was a smoking king room. Showed me the new rooms, not bad, and the older rooms, very poor. We decided to ride... more

Nice rooms in new part but don't stay in the old ones. I couldn't believe they rented these out. This place has a family style atmosphere. I would stay here again just in the new section. more

We stayed at Ray's Retreat for a few days at the end of May 2007 while we hunted for Morel mushrooms in the northern end of Michigan's lower peninsula. The room was clean and simple, the price was nice and low. Rather than camping in the woods where we hunt mushrooms and being eaten alive by mosquitoes, we opted to... more
