I reviewed this hotel a few months ago and this review is pretty much the same. The hotel is beautiful, clean and nice. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The only problem that we had is that we had separate cars and no one told us that they only validate one car for valet per room. When i found... more

Stayed at the Atheneum for two nights and it is a very nice hotel - nice rooms, clean, comfy beds, good location and most importantly it has FREE Wi-Fi. The downsides are the workout room- old cardio equipment, no weights, noise from traffic and people on the streets is annoying (we were on 9th floor and it definitely kept me... more

We stayed for a convention at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center because we wanted a smoking room and it seems all the Marriott's have become non-smoking. The hotel was very nice, the suites were amazing; felt like an apartment. Very clean, beds were extremely comfortable. The most impressive feature was the hotel staff they were very friendly and... more

We stayed at the Atheneum in February and I was told by the staff that the remodeling is complete. I'm not sure why some reviewers find it unappealingly old-fashioned -- it's supposed to look retro and, in my opinion, it's well designed. It's also located close to a number of good restaurants, the Greektown Casino, and the "people mover," so... more

we stayed here for the nickelback concert at the jla. and boy are we glad we did. the room(suite) was pretty big, with a living room , hall/bath, then 4 steps down to the bedroom. we are not too picky, so nothing really bothered us about the room, you can hear water running in the pipes sometimes from the room... more

Feb 22, 2009 | Trip type: Family

My family came to Detroit for 3 days for some appointments and decided to stay at the Atheneum because of it's proximity to the medical center and the free shuttle it offered. We had nothing but positive experience with the staff, the room, and the hotel amenities. When we checked in, the bell man, Tommy, noticed we had been given... more

Let me start by saying I have stayed at the other "casino" hotels. Both MGM and Motor city have absolutely beautiful rooms. What I think gives the Antheneum hotel a little extra something is the fact that you can get a beautiful Suite (not just a room) and the location is perfect. The rooms are HUGE. Other reviewers are talking... more

A total relic. Glass brick, sad carpet, just ugh. Weird that I would have found that much else to do in a place like Detroit, but as a frequent visitor to the city, I have no problem completely avoiding the Greektown area at this point. Again, hard to believe that dear old Detroit would have a tourist trap neighborhood, but... more

We stayed one night at the hotel and absolutely loved it! On advice from other Trip Advisors, we asked to have a room in the newly renovated part of the hotel and it was beautiful. The room had a separate sitting area and grand bathroom. A very simple continental breakfast was included in the price - pastry, fresh fruit, juice... more
