OK, so it's kinda grimy and hasn't been refurbished in a while but it is definitely a cool hotel. The lobby is still grand and the beds and bathrooms are clean, which is what matters to me. Yes, there is wallpaper peeling, dirty carpets, broken/old AC units, but it's got character. And the staff are super friendly. I'd definitely stay... More

Don't get me wrong, this grand old dame of Detroit's glory days is by no means a luxury stay...and although I rated it 'average" it is not even close to average. If you're into history, haunts, have a good sense of humour and an awesome sense of adventure then The Leland is a fun and utterly memorable place to stay.... More

It was like a hotel from Silent Hill! My husband and I drove to Detroit not knowing which hotels were good or bad and didn't have time to look at trip advisor. When we drove up to the hotel it was night and didn't get a good look of the outside; walked in and seen men in "pimp" suits wearing... More

This is a cheap and great place to stay if you are partying at City Club or the Labryinth (Clubs downstairs). Ok, so it's not the cleanest or nicest place to stay, but if you ask for the city club rate you will get a deal, and if you are going to party until 4am at City Club, it is... More

The hotel lobby is beautiful and represents the hotel in its glory days. The rest of the hotel and stay, however, left much to be desired. The service was horrible. Every person we spoke with at the desk had a "don't care-don't want to be here" attitude and none were very helpful. There was no heat in our room (1154).... More

This is a very old hotel with a lot of history, but it is no longer fit for people. It's dirty, old and dangerous. Do not stay at this hotel if you are on vacation or for business. The Leland, as others have mentioned, is not just a hotel but also serves as housing. The lobby is beautiful and so... More

My friends and I went to Detroit for New Years Eve. we stayed two nights at the Leland, and I have to say, if you can appreciate the decrepit beauty of the place, you'll love it. The room wasn't trashed or anything, but the pictures on the wall were on the floor, one of them was shattered. Luckily the couch... More

How is this hotel still in business? And how do they get away with charging $90+ a night? If not carpet, no working lights, no working phones and hallways riddled with graffitti (specifically gang related graffitti) is your preference then the Leland is the place for you. There are so many thing wrong with this establishment I dont' even know... More

I don't know where to start. The Leland got the job done. The military prepared me for this stay so I can't totally down grade the whole experience. We needed a place to stay for the weekend to enjoy our steeler game. i still don't know where to start. wow. I want to start with the positives first. After reading... More

Some friends and I checked in on 10/30/08 and went out to dinner. In the less than 2 hours we were gone, our room was robbed of everything we had in it, from empty beer cans to 3 digital cameras and iPods. The hotel refuses to help me in any way and they originally told me that we had "robbed... More
