Arrived for one night stay at the end of a shockingly wet walk from Ennerdale. The reception staff were magnificent. Immediately took our soaking gear and looked after drying it and returning it next morning.provided towels to dry the dripping Labrador! Our only mistake was to go to theRiverside Bar next door for a bar snack meal. This was very... More

We were on a 3 day walking holiday and stopped in a B&B in Rosthwaite At night we ate in the walkers bar in the Scafell Hotel. I had Steak and Ale pie but the meat was tough and chewy my wife had chicken in the basket but her chicken was a bit chewy as well. Great venue in one... More

A very comfortable hotel with well decorated rooms, I would agree a bit heavy on furniture in some cases. Large lounges and pretty gardens. Staff were very helpful and the village setting is lovely. Food in the Hikers Bar was cheap but basic.

Spent one night at Scafell Hotel while on C2C. After walking from Ennerdale Bridge we received a warm welcome in a more traditional larger older style hotel . We stayed upstairs in a compact room with a little too much furniture for comfort. The bathroom however was modern and lovely and on a hot evening it was good to be... More

We stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel to be really quiet even though every room was booked up (a blessing if you are light sleeper). The staff were friendly and attentive, catering for our special breakfast requirements. Also, the sun shone for the three days we were there, perfect.

We booked the Scafell Hotel after being let down by a nearby hotel. The long weekend with friends had been planned for some time. The hotel is clean and functional and the staff friendly. The food was good, if a little pretentious. The Riverside Bar is a strange addition to the hotel and was not used apart from having to... More

This was a nice place to stay but probably a bit overpriced. We ate in the restaurant one night and while the food was very good, it is either eat 4 courses or one - either way, it would still be 45 pounds. This was a shame as an al a carte might be more appealing to the majority. There... More

Good points excellent location and if was just on location would rate hotel excellent but all things considered can only rate this hotel as average. The double in the annex was modern although a little on small side but the very small bath was a disappointment could not even sit in it and stretch my legs yes I am 6’2... More

We went to the Riverside bar, attached the to the hotel, for pub grub after a walk. It was superb! Very hearty well prepared food at good prices. The garden is very small but overlooks the river which is very relaxing and serene. So much so that we saw a red squirrel! The atmosphere in the pub is exactly as... More

We stayed here on a very special coast to coast trip and the Scafell hotel made our stay very memorable. We are getting married whilst walking coast to coast and we were greeted with a lovely welcome from Katie, we had an amazing room (14) with a comfortable bed and an amazing jacuzzi bath. The owner and one of the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District’s renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater. Those who are content with gentle rambling or just lazing on restful lawns fringed by trees amidst imposing scenery will be equally happy staying here. Our rooms were fully refurbished during 2009, in a Warm and Rich Country House style with a ‘Contemporary Twist’ perfect for setting the scene for a peaceful and relaxing break in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. The Restaurant, Lounges and Bar have been tastefully decorated and furnished to retain that all important Country House warmth, allowing for complete relaxation after a great days walking on the Fells, and maybe even a little ‘nap’ by the fire after a delicious five course Dinner. Under the constant direction of owner’s Miles Jessop MBE (Chairman) and Andrew Nelson (Managing Director) the Management and Team of Scafell Hotel offer truly warm and friendly service. Individual and Independent Country House Hotel for the last 40 years. ... more   less
