Because there's few reviews on lodging in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I wasn't 100 percent comfortable that our stay here would pan out.
But it was perfect. Curtis is just a little more than an hour northwest of the Mackinac Bridge, so we were able to spend a day on Mackinac Island then drive to Sherman's Resort the same evening (tip: if you're planning to walk around Mackinac Island instead of biking like we did this time, check out a map of the island with distances first. If you get overly ambitious you could miss your ferry off the island. Wear very comfortable shoes and socks too).
The roads in the Upper Peninsula are in surprisingly good shape compared to the rest of Michigan, perhaps because they are subjected to less traffic than in the big cities. I saw only one area of roadway that was patched the whole time we were there and we did quite a bit of driving.
Be prepared, since the last few miles getting to Sherman's Resort is dirt roads. They're...
