We go away for romantic weekends frequently, and the 1896 House if still my favorite! The best room with fireplace, spa tub, antiques all around our four posted canopy bed. Not to mention, the candlelit breakfast is outstanding and just lovely. The restaurant on premisis is good and just ok. Look around for finer dining if that's what you're up... More

My husband & I decided to book a last minute weekend away here to celebrate our anniversary. The rate was extremely affordable and included a candlelight breakfast. Our room (#205) was very spacious and comfortable. While the decor was not my favorite, it fit the time period which the room represented. There was work being done on the property when... More

My husband and I were visiting to see the Van Gogh exhibit at the Sterling Clark. This hotel looked very appealing online. It turned out to be a very long room that was damp and dark! It is under new ownership and might improve in the future. However, their fees were high and the room was definitely NOT worth it!... More

The room was nice, clean, and comfortable. The dinner at the 1896 House restaurant was very good. The room was very nice and private. The bed was kind of squeaky... could have been a bit more comfortable. Breakfast was good. My only major complaint had to do with the people who prepared the breakfast. Each morning of our stay they... More

The front-desk clerk was very pleasant, but that didn't make up for the gloomy, sparse room and uncomfortable beds. And the walk to breakfast is fine if you're able and the weather's good, but for elderly or physically handicapped, it's difficult, and in the rain it's a bother.

We have been coming to Williamstown for ten years every year. Love the 1896 House, it continues to thrive under new ownership. The place looks beautiful, the Barnside Suite we had for a week was lovely with everything we needed. The included breakfast by Dolores is spectacular every day, delicious and so attractively presented. WIFI is sometimes iffy, but cell... More

This is really a 1960's motel and it's laid out in a long row of rooms. They tried to "class" it up with a four poster bed, but it's still a 1960's motel. I just went back to their web site and they did a masterful job disguising the real environment. I can only talk about the room we were... More

We reserved two rooms-one suite and one lower priced room across the street. The lower priced room was so mildewy it was uninhabitable. Hotel management agreed and gave a full refund of that room. Appreciated their prompt and honest response to the problem. The suite room was clean and comfortable. No complaints there. Breakfast was included in our room. We... More

Based on reviews we expected fresh, pleasant accommodations, but we were disappointed to find our room shabby and not particularly clean. The price did not reflect the fact that this is a rundown, run of the mill motel and nothing more. It didn't help that I was served a moldy, mushy orange at breakfast. We stayed in the Pondside building.... More

If you have Verizon, you'll be okay. AT&T (and likely other) providers may not get any reception. The free WiFi is on the slow iffy side. Those were our major issues. Noise does transmit through the walls fairly readily, but we only heard the young female trio on one side of our suite. Our suite was very clean, dust didn't... More
