Location was convenient and the room was well kept and a nice size. The breakfast was delicious - there's a buffet and a personal chef who cooks eggs upon arrival (so they're not just sitting out in a pan for 2 hours). We had scrambled eggs with a sausage, mushroom, and onion mixture on the side the first day and... More

For the same price we could have stayed in a much nicer place. With WiFi. And hot water. And a halfway decent cup of coffee. Not worth it. Won't stay here again. The place feels run down and cheap. Howard Johnson's would have been better. The only bonus is there are pet friendly rooms.

From the outside, I was sceptical. The "hotel" had an old motel look. However, rooms were quiet, clean and comfy. I reserved a king room, brookside, with 2 person jacuzzi. Staff was quite welcoming...until they realized I was traveling with a service dog (which I had emailed ahead of time and got the OK on). It was just about an... More

Booked a room for two nights in November based on website assertion that the place was a Bed & Breakfast/Country Inn. The room was so musty that I refused to check in because I was concerned for my health. 1896 House charged me for the room I could not use and refuses to refund the one night. The website ads... This place turned out to be no more charm or quality than a cheap roadside motel. The bedding materials were low quality, the flooring material thin, the room was dark and musty. It did not take more than a minute of examination to realize that the place was not only unhealthy and poor quality but not up to standards and... More

The building is an old-fashioned motel structure with room doors opening directly to the outside. That's neither a plus nor a minus -- it just is. Our first impression on entering our room (after struggling with a tricky key -- and, yes, real keys with those tags that can be mailed) was "Countrified cosy." Our second impression was "Musty." Both... More

Several years ago we hosted a family reunion luncheon here during the time of the fall foliage in the Berkshires and we so enjoyed their hospitality and the setting that we agreed to stop here overnight the 'next time' we were in the area; we were not disappointed. We were greeted cordially. Our room had lovely pine paneling and looked... More

We stayed at the Pondside part of the property. There are 3 parts to this property under the name of 1896 House. There is also a Tavern. The front of pondside looks like any typical 50's motel. It was getting dark, but you could see that it was dated. There were huge weeds growing out from under the flower pot... More

Overall we had a pleasant stay here. The food at the pub & tavern was excellent as well as the service. Front desk staff was helpful & friendly. Room was clean, however, outdated. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a variety of breakfast items to choose from & someone was there consistently checking the buffet and replenishing the food.Breakfast is... More

The room was nicely appointed and clean, bathroom large with lots of space to put things, and concierge pleasant and helpful. Be aware that the wifi is very spotty (we couldn't use it at all.) There is a computer that guests can use free of charge. Also, if your cellphone service is AT&T, forget it---you have to drive a a... More
