The room was nicely appointed and clean, bathroom large with lots of space to put things, and concierge pleasant and helpful. Be aware that the wifi is very spotty (we couldn't use it at all.) There is a computer that guests can use free of charge. Also, if your cellphone service is AT&T, forget it---you have to drive a a... More

We booked for three nights at Brookside. Temperature reached 90° and cooled very little at night. Air conditioner was broken. Desk was closed for the night. Open window didn't help; admitted mosquitoes and an assortment of bugs under the ill-fitting screens (no extra charge). At the breakfast center, several wet dishes in a row with food still on. Was told... More

I was prepaid but I left anyway, forfeiting my full payment. The intense cleaning products were overpowering, the pool was filled with pine needles and bugs, the pond was filled with algae. Way below my expectations, especially for its price ($155). For an extra $20, stayed at Williams Inn, which was far superior.

This is a very pleasant and relaxing place to stay in the Williamstown area. It is in fact quite close to the town, only about 3 miles away, and perfectly convenient for visiting the museums. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, but the really attractive features are outdoors, especially the burbling brook, with Adirondack chairs alongside so you can sit... More

Stayed in a Brookside room. Decor is very traditional. Room was very clean and comfortable, A/C worked fine, good shower and comfortable bed with choice of pillows. Grounds are quite nice, you can sit and watch the brook go by. Across the little bridge over the brook to the breakfast buffet which was very basic but acceptable. Nice staff. Would... More

Our room was "pond side." It was clean but smelled musty the entire time. Bed was comfortable and TV was a large, modern flat screen. Pondside is an old school strip motel, not really a New England B&B. Wallpaper and linens need updating. Breakfast was included and was good - better than the free breakfasts at the chain hotels. Expensive... More

My wife and I spent two nights here last week and were pleased. We have stayed here four or five times before to visit museums and hike. We will return. Our room was clean and neat, the bathroom spotless, and the A/C had made the room comfortable by the time we arrived at 3pm. Dinner at their onsite restaurant was... More

Over the past 9-10 years, we've stayed at 1896 a total of 20 times or more. Until its recent change of ownership, it was a reliable, well run, clean and comfortable place to call home when visiting one of our favorite towns for theater, the Clarke, Tanglewood, winter fun, etc. Not so anymore. Where to begin ... We arrived and... More

We recently stayed at the 1896 ( Brookside) for 2 nights and the entire experience was perfect! The room was lovely-- in a classic old time New England style-- 4 poster bed, heavy lined draperies, wall sconces, totally renovated and immaculate bathroom-- complete with thick towels, "Country Cupboard" style curtains, etc. And then there was breakfast... We ate in the... More

This lodging had positives and negatives. The location was ideal for touring the area. The room was clean and the bathroom newly redone. The grounds were spacious and tranquil once the highway traffic abated. The room was also musty and dimly lit. The staff took 3 hours to figure out how to turn on the heat. The hot water was...
