Our second visit to Shirakaba was as nice as the first. Like entering a different relaxing world as you drive to the top of the hill. The Japanese breakfast set the tone. Not just the taste but the presentation. (How did Sadao roll it that paper thin?) Looking out over the valley to the next mountain, wearing my robe, and... More

If you can't get to Momofuku Ko or O Ya (or, if you can get to either of them), come to Shirakaba. The food is excellent, the service superb and the environment intoxicating. The glorious Berkshires wrap a lovely home filled with wonderful amenities (e.g., pool, jacuzzi, sauna, massage and hiking). Near delightful theater, music, museums and shopping, but you'll... More

My wife and I belatedly celebrated an anniversary with a three night stay at Shirakaba Guest House, run by a delightful and extremely gracious couple, Louise and Sadao. They were so attentive to our needs and preferences, starting with asking us to complete a questionnaire before we arrived to ensure that they had the types of yogurts, beverages and snacks... More

Had a great birthday weekend in the Berkshires, staying at Shirakaba Guest House. Louise was a wonderful host, offering home-baked cookies and brownies to order, wonderful breakfasts (try the walnut sticky bits!), and lots of advice (and help) on places to go and things to do (don't miss the Clark Art Institute). Sadao will write your name in Japanese on... More

Louise and Sadao, really extend themselves for guests. The accommodations (and particularly the bed) are truly comfortable and the breakfast is amazing. Louise is great with directions and suggestions for local events and quick to provide information on the most reasonable approach to local attractions. Each room has an ample supply of some pretty wonderful Japanese products. I haven't been... More

Our visit to Shirakaba was really a treat. Louise and Sadao are excellent hosts. They make sure your stay is amazing and will do beyond your expectation. I am from Japan and wanted to go home this year, but we couldn't do it, so this was a great alternative. Some of my Japanese friends saw my photos on Facebook and... More

As you cross the threshold at the Shirakaba Ryoken you are welcomed as family members by host Yagi-San and hostess Louise. You feel transported through time and space to a kinder, gentler time - reversing the accelerated pace of modern life and recapturing those elements of gracious living that nourish the soul. Explore the wonder of the stars beyond the... More

We had the pleasure of staying at Shirakaba guest house in New Ashford MA for three days in May 2015. Where do I begin? What amazing hospitality and attention to guests enjoyment. We found Shirakaba searching online and were intrigued by the nature of it. A Japanese guest house located in the beautiful scenery of the Berkshires. We had to... More

My daughter loves all things Japan, so when I was trying to think of something special to do for her 12th birthday, I found Shirakaba online and thought it sounded like a perfect mom-daughter retreat. We spent a perfect night together in our beautiful suite. My daughter slept on the tatami mat on a blissfully comfortable futon, while I opted... More

New Year's Eve and we had no plans. Wanting to get away from the city somewhere quiet and romantic without spending a fortune, we landed at the Shirakaba Guest House. The description drew us in; cozy private retreat with sauna, hot tub and heated indoor pool. Sounded perfect. The many positive reviews confirmed it. We got excited about massage by... More
