We had the pleasure of staying at Shirakaba guest house in New Ashford MA for three days in May 2015. Where do I begin? What amazing hospitality and attention to guests enjoyment. We found Shirakaba searching online and were intrigued by the nature of it. A Japanese guest house located in the beautiful scenery of the Berkshires. We had to... More

My daughter loves all things Japan, so when I was trying to think of something special to do for her 12th birthday, I found Shirakaba online and thought it sounded like a perfect mom-daughter retreat. We spent a perfect night together in our beautiful suite. My daughter slept on the tatami mat on a blissfully comfortable futon, while I opted... More

New Year's Eve and we had no plans. Wanting to get away from the city somewhere quiet and romantic without spending a fortune, we landed at the Shirakaba Guest House. The description drew us in; cozy private retreat with sauna, hot tub and heated indoor pool. Sounded perfect. The many positive reviews confirmed it. We got excited about massage by... More

My college age daughter and I were looking forward to a mother-daughter weekend and retreat from snow and school demands. We were extremely happy to find Shirakaba! Although it was cold and snowy in the Berkshires, the coziness of Shirakaba provided a warm, comforting retreat from winter. We left the comfort of Shirakaba only once during our stay. Louise and... We just returned from a weekend at Shirakaba to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. I had high expectations of the guest house based on the New York Times article and the Trip Advisor reviews. Those expectations were exceeded at every turn. Shirakaba will now be the standard to which we hold all other lodging experiences. Everything was perfect -- the... More

I came to Shirakaba with a couple of my brothers for a weekend of relaxation and unbridled, down hill mountain shredding. The house itself is of beautiful construction with every kind of amenity you can think of. Pool, jacuzzi, sauna, even heated toilet seats! Our hosts were very kind and flexible with our carefree schedule. One of the most valuable... More

We had an incredible 3 night getaway at Shirakaba Guest House. Louise and Sadao are gracious hosts and take care of all the details for you, so that your only job is to get pampered and relax. The rooms are clean and have all the amenities you could want and more. The beds are SO comfortable and the buckwheat pillows... More

Shirakaba is a small, wonderful and uniquely friendly get away. Louise and Sadao will graciously take care of whatever you may need during your stay. Located 10 minutes from Williamstown and perhaps 20 minutes from Lenox, you can choose to ramble through historic towns or just hide away in their truly comfortable and comforting guest house. Each special Japanese breakfast... More

Last spring I toured Japan with a large group; it was well-organized and we covered alot of ground, but because we were on the move constantly, we didn't have much opportunity to process the many experiences. A new friend from the trip found Shirakaba and suggested we meet there. It turned out to be perfect on many levels. Geographically, set... More
