We took a weekend trip to Marblehead in the fall and were looking for someplace unique and inexpensive. The Nautilus served our needs perfectly. A weathered little place that had a comfortable bed and a friendly owner, we found we were the only ones there and enjoyed it immensely. A storm was coming in and the wind howling between the buildings reminded us of where we were. We were warm and cozy inside and fell asleep to the sounds of a Nor'easter announcing its arrival. Directly across the street is the Driftwood, a little red shack that serves up no nonsense food, good portions, good coffee and lots of locals. Take your cup of coffee and sit outside to watch the boats bouncing on the waves or the spray shooting off the rocks just beyond. Marblehead is the perfect place to take off on a dreamy drive to Rockport or Gloucester. But take a short stroll through the town of Marblehead first. The shops are great.
