We spent the recent long weekend at the Briarcliff Motel and found it to be a great little motel, with lots of charm. The rooms are small, but extremely clean. We had a family of 4 stay comfortably. The breakfast is simple, but delicious. There were fresh homemade scones and muffins or breads each day, along with fresh fruit, granola,... More

My wife and I and our 3 children stayed for 3 nights during the ski season. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was delicious. The owners and staff are incredibly helpful, warm, and friendly. We have stayed in the berkshires before, and this is, by far, the best experience we have had. I highly recommend the Briarcliff Motel.

A quirky motel set in a lovely area of New England. The rooms are designed in a retro style and are clean and well decorated. Breakfast was a cold buffet style but featured nice home-cooked produce. Definitely worth a visit.

pros clean nicely decorated but some wall paper peeling made the room well close to ski butternut cons we had room #1 which was too far to get wifi very dark room, not enough lights (2 small lamps to light the whole room) breakfast can be improved, a waffle maker can help with kids, for adults, it was OK, coffee... It's always disappointing when people think what you're doing is only 'OK', but one thing that motel life has taught us is that you can try as hard as you can - and we do - but you can't please everybody. One man's french-press locally-roasted coffee is another man's drip-machine Donut Shop Blend. A couple of points of fact though:... More

There is nothing wrong with the Briarcliff Motel . . . except the cost. There are plenty of other motel rooms in the area, at half or one-third the price, just as good, and with much more liberal cancellation policies. The Briarcliff is a refurbished strip motel off a major road. There is a shade over the window, but not... More

You know, here’s an interesting thing. (Bear with me.) Richard and I never set out to ‘do’ a motel. Indeed we resisted the idea of even viewing the Briarcliff, because the British preconception about motels is fed by American movies in which, very often, good things do not happen. However, after many, many trips to the Berkshires from our London... More

Great small hotel which has been converted to B+B style. Very clean; great to not have mold in the bathroom. It was a very cold weekend and the heating was great in the room. The breakfast was simple but very healthy: Granola, fresh fruit, great yogurt, home made scones and good tea. didn't have the coffee so I can't attest... More

The B&B is a wonderful escape. Well positioned between Stockbridge and Great Barrington, the hotel offers a great view of Monument Mountain with a fun hiking trail; virtually right across the street. The rooms are fresh and clean with wonderful bedding. Richard is an awesome host, friendly and informative. This is a great reinterpretation of the classic motel. Comfortable, relaxed,... More

Comfortable and charming. The dog was treated like one of the family. We received a recommendation for an excellent dinner at the The Prairie Whale just down the street. The Briarcliff provided a wonderful breakfast the next morning. Overall, the place is terrific.

Modern version of an old style motel with simple and tasteful decor, clean rooms, right price and ultimate hospitality. Location is excellent and perfectly placed between Great Barrington and Stockbridge. Our hosts went out of their way to find us alternate lodging for the first night since a snow storm had taken out their power (on Thanksgiving Day!). Clare and... More

I love old roadside hotels and the proprietors of the Briarcliff have reclaimed, repurposed, and renovated this quintessentially American structure to be a sophisticated, graceful, unprepossessing, and elegant B&B that is also AFFORDABLE. It is like this posh wonderful secret, rich with good, witty, warm humor that shows up in unexpected places like the DVD descriptions! At night there is... More
