This was the place to stay for years, the best kept secret of Chilmark. A pass to Lucy Vincent Beach ( clothing optional bathing at the far left end) and peaceful setting with minimal expenses. Now, the housing and furnishings are tired, not much attention is paid to upgrades or repairs. Owners have other interests and just let it run... More

No place is perfect so we will write the pros and cons. First the pros. The landscape is beautiful so it totally makes sense that the location can be chosen for weddings. We loved the animals - turkeys, horses, the Canadian geese in the pond, rabbits and deer. Paige was a huge help with suggestions for places around the island... More

We stayed at Captain Flanders' for the last two nights of our honeymoon. Our room was pleasant and clean (if small) and there was plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. The grounds were very nice, but there was a fair amount of goose poop which made it tricky to navigate. We had spent the first... More

I doubt there is a more beautiful and idyllic setting on the entire island that you can enjoy as a guest! These gorgeous and peaceful surroundings put you in a world outside of your daily concerns at home, as does the cozy simplicity of the rooms and the rest of the house (breakfast room, living room). My experience is that... More

This old New England style homestead was exactly what we had hoped for. The Vineyard has always been a weekend getaway spot for my husband and I. This year we decided we would stay in Chilmark and chose the Captain Flanders House after driving by the beautiful meadows and stonewalled fields last fall. We were so pleased with the ambience... There where HUGE bugs and cockroaches that would be crawling everywhere on the couches, beds, etc....afraid they would crawl on us at night while we slept, so we wraped ourselves in a sheet securely. I also feel that they are frauds. The Innkeeper / Manager, Paige, proceeded to e-mail me after our stay to tell me there where "stains" on... More

Upon checkout, on September 9th, the guest was contacted requesting identification of stains on linens, towels, robes, sofa and carpet. We wanted to be able to treat the stains properly. The guest has not been contacted since as we have not received items back from the dry cleaner. On September 12th the guest brought to our attention that she had... More

Beautiful surroundings it has, but I could get that camping. The rooms don't have locks, the floors have holes (and cockroaches), and the staff/maid/ innkeeper are nowhere to be found. We had to call repeatedly to even get them to grace us with their presence to get passes for the beach. No thanks, I'd rather go elsewhere.

If you are looking for the service at the four seasons hotel and willing to pay between $500 and $1000 a night this really is not the place for you. If you think someone is going to meet and great every time you go out, replace your water bottle every time its empty and boil water for tea, make crumpets... More

Having had a whirlwind trip around 6 cities in 9 days we arrived at Captain Flanders looking forward to 6 days of R & R. Our first impressions were good, it was set in beautiful, tranquil surroundings, a lake, deer, horses, geese. We thought we'd arrived in heaven. Unfortunately it wasn't quite as idyllic as we hoped. Nobody was there... More

There is no doubt that the location of Captain Flander's is second to none and the free bus pass and beach pass add to its charm but the lack of facilities regarding refreshments is sadly lacking . We were booked in for 6 nights having trekked all around E. Canada and we looked forward to relaxing in a quiet setting... More

Once again I apologize that the guests were unhappy. I wish it had been brought to my attention when they were at the property so we may have addressed their concerns while they were there. We don't want anyone to be disappointed with their stay at the B&B. More
