Wow! This was our first time at an inn and it won't be our last. The historic building is marvelous to look at, inside and out. We were treated like wanted family and greeted with wine and cheese upon arrival. Frenzied dragonflies entertained us as we shared the porch rockers with fellow inn-mates to watch the ferry and the barges... More

One of our relations (a US citizen) suggested staying at the Whitehaven Hotel, Maryland. We were pleased that we did so. Its a small hotel/B&B run by Cindy. To us Brits it allowed us to see a side of the US that most visitors probably would not see. We arrived when Cindy wasn't there, but she left clear instructions. The... More

A spectacular setting on the Wicomico with the ferry operation and a nest of ospreys visible so close to our bay window. Innkeeper Cindy went out of her way to check in with us the night we arrived and enjoyed coffee and a chat over the best, bar none, sweet potato hashbrowns in the state, or the nation. It's an... My husband and I needed a relaxing getaway weekend in the middle of nowhere, away from the crowd and hustle and bustle of city life. We found ourselves in the Whitehaven- a lovely, historic hotel on the banks of the Wicomico River. Although we were planning on a 2-night stay, somehow we wound up going for the Valentine's dinner! We... More

We only stayed one night as we were exploring Maryland's eastern shore. We arrived in late afternoon and thankfully had time to settle into our room, have a snack of home-baked cookies and a walk around the quaint quiet settlement of Whitehaven. We stood on the river's edge and watched the three car ferry go back and forth and felt... More

Great location. Beautiful setting. Nice view of the river and ferry. Tiny village to walk around.Overall, just a great place to relax. The innkeeper, Cindy is a great person. She makes delicious breakfast as well.

Water views, peace and quiet, bird watching, family and friends, great food, good conversation, if these sound appealing to you, then you will want to spend time at the Whitehaven Hotel. We have enjoyed every one of our visits to this charming hotel. Each of the hotel rooms offer something special, from the Victorian Room's wonderful view of the river,... More

The Whitehaven Hotel is a reconstruction of an old way station on the river, a hotel that served travelers in the 19th century when river travel was the only mode of travel to the outer reaches of the eastern shore. It retains a feeling of the 1800's and is attractively furnished with services provided by a long-term and knowledgeable staff... More

This an historic Inn in a very quiet and bucolic setting on the Wicomico River. We sat and watched and photographed the Egret hatchlings on a old ship's mast right on the River inn front of the hotel. The breakfast was wonderful and the décor and ambience is very relaxed. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for one night in July following a trip to Tangier Island. The hotel has been restored by the owner and is furnished with antique furniture (not sure what period, but White Haven was established in 1685 so it probably includes lots of them). It is AIR CONDITIONED, which, at the time, they didn't say on their website... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Whitehaven Hotel is a beautifully restored, historical Bed & Breakfast nestled on the Wicomico River with two docks for visiting boaters and sits beside a 300 year old Ferry (said to be the oldest in the Continental United States). It is a scenic 20 minute ride to Salisbury, Princess Anne or 45 min. ride to the Maryland beaches, but "who needs beaches with our views" and Maryland crabs waiting to be opened and savored only a few minutes down the road. The Whitehaven Hotel provides kayaks and bikes for its guests, I might add that the kayaking is unique with many vistas and waters ways to investigate, while our property is a sanctuary for birds. On any given day you may see eagles, osprey, purple martins, heron, hawks, red winged black birds, humming birds and many more species. It's a gem of a find.
