I have long been a proponent of leaving the interstates and traveling old roads to catch a flavor of the area I’m traveling through. My curiosity is routinely piqued by what lies at the end of those long driveways that turn off these roads that centuries ago were just paths between far-flung homesteads. Driving to Woodlawn Farms finally satisfied a little bit of that curiosity. As you turn off old Route 5 onto Wynne Road, then turn down the drive to the manor house, you know you are re-tracing history.
Woodlawn Farms is more than just a bed and breakfast, although it is everything a B&B should be. Somehow as I drive down that dirt lane, the atmosphere changes. Time seems slower, the air is fresher, the sky is bluer, man-made noises disappear, and I lose the hunch in my shoulders. I’ve had the opportunity to stay several times in different rooms and I have never been disappointed in the accommodations or food, but what draws me back to Woodlawn is the sanctuary it...
