The Howard Johnson Plaza by Wyndham Ocean City Oceanfront receives widespread acclaim for its exceptional service, with the staff earning praise for their attention to detail and promptness. Guests revel in the clean, comfortable rooms, often highlighting the spectacular views, though some mention the proximity to the elevator as a minor inconvenience. The hotel's prime location is lauded for its peaceful yet accessible setting, close to the beach and local dining spots. While the amenities are well-regarded, including the commendable housekeeping and striking ocean views, a few guests note the absence of complimentary breakfast despite the on-site restaurant's higher price point. Nonetheless, the hotel's overall value is celebrated, particularly for its serene atmosphere, complete with cozy beds, well-appointed rooms, and a welcoming lobby fireplace.

Visited in early July 2020. Covid protocols were clear and were followed. All public areas were very clean and were kept clean. Social distancing barriers kept staff and guests safe.
Our room, oceanfront queen, was extremely clean. Mini-fridge was immaculate. Bathroom was sparkling. Phone handset and TV remote were encased in plastic bags.
Bed was very comfortable with ample pillows. There was no bedspread, another sanitary consideration for guests. Blankets available upon request. Coffee maker, bible and other minor amenities were not in the room, but sanitized ones were available upon request.
Daily room cleaning was not done, again as a safety consideration for staff and guests. Additional linens are delivered in a closed plastic bag, if needed. I actually found I preferred not having staff come in the room each day. (I could come and go without worrying about crossing paths with housekeeping.)
Balcony was sufficient with two Adirondack chairs.
Room was simply decorated, but attractive. Carpeting was clean. The rooms and balconies are smoke-free.
Very happy with the facility and the courteous staff. Ashley, the manager, was especially kind.
Excellent location in the middle of the boardwalk.
Highly recommend.

Having never stayed at a Howard Johnson, I wasn't sure what to expect. But this hotel is GEM of find, in a city that has no shortage of places to stay. The rooms are spacious, well appointed with thoughtful touches (USB charging ports on at the bedsides) and the standard amenities one expects these days from a hotel that WANTS your business (e.g. comfy beds, sparkling clean and updated bathrooms, free coffee, and a micro/fridge in the room).

What makes this place stand out is its excellent service (friendly, attentive staff) and superb location. The Oceanfront rooms (ours was 601) are PRIMO: the balcony has an unbeatable view of the ocean and the boardwalk, great for viewing the ocean vista or just people watching!
The hotel is LITERALLY steps from beach access points (between two, about 100 ft apart), and all of the boardwalk food and shopping.

My only comment is not a deal breaker, but might be for some. The parking behind the hotel is free, has in/out privileges, and covered (except the top most level), but has NO elevator; so, make sure to drop off your luggage before parking the car!

Visited this hotel after we were moved from another Howard Johnson that wasnt open due to Covid. Arrived at 2:30 with scheduled check in at 3. Seemed that most rooms weren't ready. When we finally got our room at 3:45 nobody let us know, luckily my wife waited in line and asked at the desk. As we got off the elevator, I got a contact high. We entered our room and it smelled like and ashtray. There are no smoking signs everywhere. When my wife asked them to spray our room the woman had the "I knew it" face. Not sure if they ever sprayed our room. Only spoke to 1 person the entire 3 night stay and that was the desk calling to get a credit card number for incidentals at 10 o'clock at night. There Covid signs say linens and extra trash bags would be supplied since there was no housekeeping for multiple night stays. Balcony has paint peeling badly, thankfully we didnt have children with us. Only 1 ice machine and it's in the ground floor, we were on the 7th floor. We wouldn't stay there again. Many nicer places in OCMD. Only positive was it's on the boardwalk and the beach.

The location of this hotel is excellent. We had ocean view rooms which were excellent, clean, & nice to sit on the balcony. This was the first hotel I've stayed at that has texting concierge and they checked in daily asking if I needed laundry service/anything etc. Free parking onsite & walkable to many bars, restaurants, & shops in the south board walk. During our stay all employees greeted us even if in passing in hallways or elevators including housekeepers. The only disappointment was the Restaurant Brothers Bistro. We had some bad service there & the breakfast buffet was $15.99 or $16.99 and did not include coffee. I echo the previous reviews of the owner being cheap, ebenezer scrooge like. Just charge 1-2$ more so the price is under 20$ & no one would complain. It included many of the typical things you get for free from hotel breakfast buffets such as sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, french toast, & breakfast potatoes. The hotel lobby has free coffee but there were multiple signs on the restaurant that outside food & drink is prohibited. We did not return to the restaurant however this property is located near many alternative dining options.

This wouldn't have been a terrible hotel if not for a couple issues. It was pretty clean, great location on the boardwalk and a warm indoor pool. However the ppl that checked us in weren't overly friendly or welcoming-not usually something I care too much about on its own-but when we later discovered that the AC in our room wasn't working right, they didnt seem to care at all. We stayed only 2 nights which is good bc it was definitely cooler outside than inside. We also got stuck with cold showers and baths most times, which maybe wasn't terrible given the heat and mugginess in the room! The restaurant in the hotel was priced decently for boardwalk food, but they over cooked my toddlers chicken tenders and over oiled and over cooked pita for dip...the salad would have been tasty, just WAY too much dressing. We like OCM, but won't be staying again. Not worth how much we paid.

I would stay there again. As an older hotel, I found the air conditioning unit going on and off a bit disturbing when trying to sleep. Oceanfront room on the boardwalk was enjoyable and able to hear and look at the ocean. Another plus was that the sliding glass door has a screen which enable me to turn off air and listen to the ocean without letting insects in the room. Speaking of insects, there were a few flying around. However I have a friend that stayed in another property and he noticed the same thing.

My husband and I go to Ocean City, Maryland every year for my birthday weekend. We love the location of the hotel because it is convenient to the boardwalk and directly beside the Brass Balls Saloon (which is where we love to eat). The beds were great and the service was awesome.

The staff is amazing!!!! We had the absolute best three days in Ocean City. I am so grateful for the interaction we had with the staff. They treated us like family, from check in to housekeeping, they really made us feel welcomed. They really care about the people that are going in and out of there doors! I can't want to return!

the place was nice it could use some upgrades but was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The cleaning people came and did a great job cleaning each day and taking away our dirty towels. The hot tub was very nice to relax in.
