Old Victorian hotel, that is also an apartment building. Rooms are tight, with outdated, worn furnishings. Comfortable bed, but flat pillows. Sinuses went nuts…. Dust? Mold? Something!!!! Honestly, outside of the old woodwork, this place felt like a firetrap. I was on a bike tour and didn't choose it. If I had, I wouldn't have stayed here. Staff was nice.

Sorry your stay was not to your liking. As to the "firetrap" comment the hotel meets or exceeds all local and state fire codes. The hotel had a new sprinkler system (the third in 25 years) installed and digital fire alarm system with direct connection to local authorities. This system is 4 years old and very technically advanced. Thanks for... More

This place has great vibes. We did not want to leave. The staff was great. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was in the center of all the action. The room rate was cheap and we even got free parking. We will return to this hotel.

Unique hotel built in 1890's & restored in 1980's. Great service and friendly staff. We had just ridden the Ohiopyle to Frostburg segment of the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail & wanted a nice hotel for the evening. The Gunter is on the main street of Frostburg, easily accessible to a choice dining options. Breakfast was at a diner across... More

My wife and I stayed one night while attending a conference at FSU. When we walked into the back door, it seemed a very weird place. You enter in the basement and walk down a long corridor with "museums" and pictures on either side. It's a bit creepy because there are tons of doll collections and the place was used... More

Thanks for the review and we look forward to having you stay with us again. One of the attractions at the hotel is a jail that was used in the late 1800's to house federal prisoners being transported from Washington DC to Pittsburgh, PA. The federal agents would lock up the prisoners in the basement jail and then go upstairs... More

This was a perfect stop on my road trip. The place was clean, comfortable, and the desk clerk was accommodating. A unique place with an interesting history but with free wi-fi and a fridge in the room. A really great change from the standard chain hotels. The room was immaculate!

After reading the great reviews about Failinger's Hotel Gunter on TripAdvisor, we decided to book a night here while we were in the area for a wedding. We usually stay in higher end hotels as I am picky about where I sleep, but with slim pickings in the area, I thought it would be interesting to stay in some place... More

We actually changed our auto routing to stay here and it was well worth. An amazing job of restoring a grand old hotel with reception and lobby, rooms, and halls all immaculate and beautifully decorated for the period when the hotel was built. Staff is very helpful. Location is central. Even WiFi throughout! Breakfast is continental so don't expect waffle... More

This century hotel has been restored by the current owners to reflect Victorian era furnishings and pace of travel. The owners are collectors and display memorabilia depicting local history, business and family life, and a significant display ff Victorian era dolls and furniture. The hotel is located downtown on the main street and is quite and comfortable but does not... More

Thanks for staying with us. Although we have banquet facilities and a full kitchen we have decided to encourage our guest to eat their lunch and dinner outside the hotel at the 7 restaurants within walking distance. The Failinger's Hotel Gunter does have free continental breakfast each morning. We strive to be good neighbors in our community. More

On a car-trip vacation to visit friends and family in various parts of the south Atlantic to the midwest, we reserved this hotel for one night during our travels. We prefer to stay in unique hotels, but have really high expectations for cleanliness. We arrived and immediately checked out the room - super clean! We could tell the property owners... More

Hotel was clean and staff was very pleasant. Upon check-in, the lady at the front desk noticed that my husband and I were travelling by motorcycle and offered to let us put the bike in the garage, instead of leaving it out in the open. The first night we declined the offer, but the second night Tropical Storm Bill was... More
