I was there for my daughters graduation from Frostburg State. This hotel is beautiful. A step back in time but all modern conveniences. It put the frosting on our trip. I recommend this very highly. The staff was wonderful. The hotel spotless. It was full of nostalgia. I fell in love.

This is a great old hotel built in 1891 and lovingly restored to original. The entire facility was so clean and quiet and was a trip back in time. The staff was very knowledgeable about the hotel and very helpful with local information was well. We went there because of the pictures on travelocity and we are very glad we... More

WoW, this is an interesting place. The parking in back was scary close, but by morning was empty. The route into the hotel from the back was quiet interesting with all the showcases of dolls, plates, typewriters, a jail, a coal mine- OMG. Amazing history of stuff. The grand staircase in the lobby is gorgeous and you can imagine the... More

if you are tired of the generic, sterile, cookie cutter hotel chains out there and are looking for something truly unique, then check out the Hotel Gunter. This beautiful historic hotel is overflowing with quirkiness. Plus, the staff are friendly, the rooms are comfortable and clean. You won't find a room as nice as these rooms for the price at... My wife and I, with our baby girl, stayed at the Hotel Gunter for about week while visiting the area - we like the area so much that we are considering a home there. The Hotel Gunter is unique and genuine, completely charming, gracefully-aged and revived, comfortable, easy-going, relaxed. The staff is friendly, responsive, and helpful. The hotel itself is... I stayed at this wonderful place for the entire summer while I was working down in Cumberland on a temporary assignment. It was a beautiful experience and an answer to a prayer. While I was waiting for one of the hotel's apts to become available, I stayed alternately in room #s 307 and 308. Both are finely appointed with antique... More

I agree with all the positive reviews. The plumbing, wiring and fire sprinklers are all modern. I really appreciate that the old wood work was repaired and refinished. My room had 7” oak baseboard. The door was paneled oak with a transom window above.. If you want boring go to a bit chain hotel. If you want atmospheres this is... More

This was a most unusual place. I found the parking and entered in the lower level where there was a museum of sorts - strange exhibits of dolls and memorabilia and stuffed animals. This was a little creepy and then when I went upstairs the TV was blasting a religious show of Hail Marys. The lobby itself was interesting in... More

When it was built in 1896, this was the Hotel Gladstone, certainly the grandest accommodation in these parts. When you walk in the front door of the Hotel Gunter today, one can almost imagine the bellboys in brown uniforms with pearl buttons as they appeared in those halcyon days. The grand staircase before you looks every bit like a set... More

Ah, the Hotel Gunter -- or Falinger's, or however you refer to it, this was an experience! This hotel requires time to look around and enjoy all the furnishings and appointments. You travel up from the basement level and the back parking lots through the winding maze of a corridor to the front desk -- and be sure you do... More
