This bed & breakfast is great and Marta is a gracious hostess. I and a college friend regularly get together for a yearly get together somewhere in the mid-Atlantic area. We always look for a bed & breakfast that has a room with two beds - two REAL bed. We stayed in the Hill Room, a 3rd story room with... More

I can't say enough wonderful things about the John Stam House and it's lovely owners! With a daughter far away from home at Washington College, this has become our home away from home while visiting. Beautiful home and gardens, fabulous accommodations, terrific coffee and breakfast and truly warm and welcoming people. Thank you Marta for always going above and beyond!... More

A last minute change of plans forced a quick stay in Chestertown. The John Stam House was able to accommodate me on short notice. What a gracious home and hosts! Beautifully restored gothic victorian from 1860. Walk to the charming downtown, waterfront and Washington College. Comfy beds, spacious room, beautiful gardens, delicious breakfast... and last- but certainly not least... the... More

We're glad the Chamber of Commerce recommended this place! Around the corner from Main St sits this quiet abode. Marta answered the door as soon as we stepped onto the porch. She is very accommodating and you feel like she won't take "no" for any answer. We took a third floor room with the bath across the hall, which we... More

Marta is a lovely and accommodating host, the house is charming, beds are comfortable, breakfast was delicious and the coffee was excellent. My 13 year old daughter thought the house was delightful and has asked several times if we can go back for another weekend. Highly recommend.

The weather finally gave us a break, so we decided to take a drive and explore Chesapeake Bay area. We choose this from a list of offerings. What a lucky choice! The inn is a loving restored victorian. Marta has every detail down to the old fashioned salt cellers on breakfast table. She knew we were from the south, and... More

My friend and I recently snuck out of town to get some much needed R&R after the holidays. With no agenda and no schedule Marta and the John L Stam House provided us with a relaxing atmosphere and just the right amount of luxury. The warm, inviting rooms, soft comfy beds and roaring fires instantly soothed and relaxed us. Restaurant... More

Lovely Victorian B&B - about midway between High Street and Mary Washington College. 5 minute walk to "downtown." The house has several rooms available and the hostess (Marta) goes out of her way to make guests feel welcome in this home. Breakfast was a real treat, and coffee was terrific. Nice porch and gardens. A real jewel.

We found Marta and the John Stam/Hill's Inn B&B through a recommendation from another B&B owner and were so glad we did. Marta is a wonderful host and we had such a lovely time. The accommodations were terrific (I can assure you the bed in the Jarrell Room is very very comfortable), the host is a charm, gracious and so... More

Marta is the ultimate innkeeper! She makes perfect coffee as early in the am as you need it and makes raspberry iced tea in the pm and always has sherry in the parlor. The side porch is lovely in the morning - watch the ospreys circle overhead as they search for breakfast in the nearby Chester River. The Inn is... More
