We stayed here for a week in October and we loved it...spacious campsites, clean rest rooms and hot water every day. The staff is very friendly...we have camped at another campground for years but would definitely go back to Bass Harbor when we go back!!!! if you camp for a week you get a free day!!! Loved this campground...

We stayed here for a three-day fall weekend trip and loved it. It was quiet, spacious, and perfect access to Beech Cliff, Canadian Cliffs, and Echo Lake. We visited all these without driving anywhere. Pets are welcome here, the staff is awesome, and the sites don't make you feel like you are camping on top of your neighbors. We will... More

As a couple in our late twenties traveling without children, we were a minority at this family-friendly campground. That said, everyone was nice, the campground was certainly adequate, and we enjoyed our stay. Cons: the campsites are too close together, the showers are very small, there was no grill over the firepit to facilitate cooking, like other campsites we've stayed... More

We spent five days at the campground in July 2014. Our reservations were made six months in advance. The campground hosts were very nice and even offered us our choice of sunny vs shady when we booked. The campground was very park like. Beautiful swimming pool and grounds. And the staff was very friendly. Great spot!

This was our first trip to Maine with our children. Smugglers Den is the perfect place to stay. We rented a deluxe cabin for a week and it was so nice. Very clean. Very comfortable. Well equipped inside. Kids loved the bunks. We always tent camp but treated ourselves for a full week in a cabin. This campground has a... More

Smuggler's Den was in a great location, far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor (about a 20 minute drive). The campsites are a little tight, but everyone is pretty quiet and courteous, and the campground has a lot to offer, including a pool, full bathrooms, a field that we laidd in and watched the stars,... There are many positives about Smuggler's Den. The staff were all very friendly. The bathroom facilities were very nice and clean. The camp store was well stocked and was open most of the day. The only minor downside was that the campsites are pretty close together so if you are looking for solitude, this is not the place. It was... More

I was visiting MDI with some friends and, unfortunately, we didn't finalize our plans in time to have our pick of accommodations. We ended up at Smuggler's Den, which was pretty miserable. The bathhouses were filthy and way too small for the size of the campground. The campsite itself didn't have much space either. The location is very unattractive, due... More

A peaceful retreat! Sites were wooded, shady, and spacious! The cabins look amazing...especially the new ones. Grocery store located close by. Southwest Harbor is easily located to other areas on MDI.

I camped here solo in the late summer, after high season. When I went to the office to inquire about a site, I was met by a kind of confused "what the hell do you want?" look from the guy there. When I told him I wanted a campsite (imagine that!) he seemed to comprehend and was polite from then on....
