Susi, our host, did her utmost to ensure that our Southwest Harbor experience was perfectly memorable. The Birches is a charming inn with stunning views and a comfortable feel. Susi sat with us on arrival to give us some background on Mount Desert Island, suggest itineraries, share dining options and discuss options for daily breakfast. She was beyond accommodating, dashing... More

Inn owner, Susi, and her daughter, Kate, went over and above during my family's 4-day stay. The breakfasts were fabulous and Susi even accommodated my gluten-free, dairy-free diet. She got to know my family with 3 kids, ages 12, 9, and 7, and recommended excellent restaurants, stops, and hikes. She knows every nook and cranny of Mt. Dessert Island and... More

Birches is a lovely b&b that we stayed at for a few nights during our trip to Mount Desert Island. It has the rustic feel of an old country home, while being well-kept and extremely attractive, with a stunning view of the water from huge living room bay windows. The atmosphere and service are relaxed: it's more the feeling of... More

We found everything other reviewers said to be true. Suzi and Kate are wonderful and know everything about their beautiful island. We opted to pay for an ocean view and it was marvelous. From our bed in the morning we could see the quiet and beautiful harbor. Breakfasts were wonderful but the advice was beyond what most places can offer.... More

We had an amazing stay with Suzi at The Birches. The house is very nice and has a beautiful view of the harbor. My family of four, my mother-in-law and my parents all stayed at The Birches and our rooms were perfect for our various needs. The grounds are lovely and we played croquet outside one evening. We agreed that... More

This B&B is located in quiet Southwest Harbor, a short drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. The water view is beautiful, our room was very comfortable with private bath. Susie, our host, made wonderful breakfasts. The house has been in her family for 100 years and she is a great vacation guide, with many helpful suggestions about hikes, etc. being... More

It does not get better than this!! Wonderful hosts, accommodations, recommendations of things to do, location. Breakfasts were superb and healthy, varied daily, supplemented by fine conversation with other guests and hosts as desired. Each of the four rooms we saw was splendid and individualized.

This was our Acadia stop on our New England meandering. We chose Southwest Harbor because it is on the "quiet side" of the island, away from the relative bustle of Bar Harbor. We stayed three nights and had a terrific experience. The property is situated in a forested area overlooking the ocean. The picture window in the breakfast area looks down... More

Located on pristine waterfront property. Suzy shares the family history of the estate and is excited to share the beauty and wonder of Southwest Harbor/Mt Desert Island. Her breakfast is wonderful. Upon checking in she had sliced cheese, crackers and fresh grapes to tide us over until dinner. Coffee and tee were available 24/7. Suzy was a treasure of knowledge... More

We traveled to Maine for some spring "birding" and found this treasure. Acadia, the artists' shops and of course the lobster! were great, but Susie made the vacation one to remember. We could not have felt more welcome, enjoying great conversation and ditto for the breakfasts. Excellent near-by restaurants were a welcome surprise. Suzie's intimate knowledge of the surrounding area... More
