During our multi-night stay, our room was not cleaned, at all one day and not well cleaned the other. Locals came to the dumpster and dumped their household trash at 6:00 a.m. right outside our window, which had to be kept open due to the bad smoke smells and dirty smell in the room (Ours was supposed to be a... more

My wife and I stayed at the Howard Johnson’s in South Portland May 17-19, 2009. - The Non-Smoking Rooms must have just had the non-smoking sign glued to the door after years of smoking therein. - One day they did not make up our room and all the staff had been sent home by 2:00pm and they would not clean... more

I arrived to the Hotal on the 11th....getting to my room, it felt like nobody had stayed there for a month and I could see my breath. All evening was freezing, I could not get the heat to work other than blowing a "little bit" of warm air. I used blankets from both beds to try to stay warm, but... more

Drove into the HoJo's from behind, it is painted partially turquoise (not recently) and looked abandoned....I was pretty nervous and irate because it is not a cheap place, especially for what it is. THe front was slightly more presentable, but not much. The outside appearance is pretty bad actually, and makes me wonder why they haven't updated it. The inside... more

We chose this hotel because (1) we wanted a hotel in South Portland, (2) the price was considerably lower than other hotels in the area, (3) it had an indoor pool for the kids. This hotel is only two miles away from the Maine Mall and about 10-15 miles away from Old Orchard Beach. The price was very desirable ($114... more

This is your average chain motel. It's clean, they have internet and a swimming pool and we did get good rates. It's not in central Portland, but in South Portland, a separate city as it seems. While I can't say anything against this motel, I have to admit that I wouldn't come to Portland a second time, because the city... more

After bidding and bidding for about 2 weeks, finally just gave in to Priceline's 2-Star options, and got this HoJo's at about $105/night. [For those that are familiar with [--]'s bidding feature, believe me - I started at $50/night and worked my way through all options until this was really the bottom line..] Seemed a bit steep for something 2-Star,... more

We weren’t sure what to expect due to some of the reviews but we took our chances anyways and everything was wonderful. When you first arrive you walk into a comfortable lobby with leather couches and internet work stations. Check in was fast and within minutes we were in our room. When we finally got down to the room we... more
