My husband and I stayed here last August 2013. Just getting around to writing a review now. This inn was beautiful. Old fashioned elegance and filled with some of the most impressive antique furniture that I've ever seen. Some parts of the Inn were under construction but this didn't bother us at all. Still lots of places and nooks and... More

The inn keepers Brenda and Mike were great and the Breakfasts just spectacular! Lots of antiques, land running right to oceans edge, great views. Good restaurant, even one night with entertainment. This is a real Sea Captains house that had many children, so interesting. Be careful however a couple of the rooms are small (Captain's children's rooms) but they are... More

Yes, the house is in pretty original configuration, so as stated, some of the bedrooms are small. We did ensure that each has a private bath. That meant that some of the children's rooms were changed to be baths opening into another child's room for the bedroom. Captain Nickels and his wife, Elizabeth, had 8 children, so at least we... The breakfasts at the inn are wonderful, but the overall experience was very disappointing. We were not given the room I had requested three months earlier, and the one we were assigned had no closet, no room to unpack at all, one uncomfortable chair and one lamp with a low wattage lamp that was not good for reading. The bathroom... More

I am sorry that we did not meet expectations for your stay with us. I wish you had expressed concerns while you were here and we would have tried to accommodate making you more comfortable. BTW, all our bedrooms do have AC. More

My wife and I stayed at the Captain A.V. Nichols for 2 nights in July 2014. It was just fantastic. The room was great. The food was great. Brenda and Michael were gracious hosts. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend a stay here.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Captain A.V. Nickels Inn this past weekend to attend a wedding in Stockton Springs. We arrived Saturday and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the Havana Suite-a wonderfully large and clean space with roomy, bedroom, bath, kitchenette, living room and a fabulous balcony with an ocean view. The... More

It was fun to read your review and want to thank you for appreciating the Inn for what it is...an old sea captain's home. We've only been working three summers on the many renovation needs and are happy to see that our efforts are making progress. We love sharing the home with others and think that the "good captain" might... More

Captain A.V. Nickels Inn is conveniently located within an easy drive of Acadia National Park, Camden and other points of interest along the Rte. 1 coastline, but its location is not the best reason to stay there. Brenda and Mike did a splendid job restoring the inn and furnishing it with an impressive array of European antiques. Each morning featured... More

We LOVED your review.....thanks so much for noticing how much has been done to bring this "Old Lady" back to life. When we first saw her 3 years ago, it broke our heart to see what a state she was in. We know this is not the Ritz, but she has plenty of charm and needed to be rescued! We're... More

Mere words will never fully describe the captivating and wonderful experience we had in staying at this Bed and Breakfast. It felt like home, especially when we first met those who owned it. Mike and Brenda are the warmest people ever and we immediately felt we were home, a beautiful, warm and inviting home to be in. We stayed in... More

My mom and I met for a week-long mother-daughter trip at Captain Nickels in June. I honestly do not know where to begin with good things to say about the inn and its proprietors, Mike and Brenda. The place is old, full of history, and absolutely gorgeous. The location in Searsport is PERFECT because it's right in the middle of... More

Thank you so much for such a wonderful recommendation. We've tried to design a place that meets many expectations of historic homes, but wanted to ensure that our rooms and presentations were up-to-date as much as possible. We also did not want to destroy the historic integrity of the house by gutting it and rebuilding something new inside (also there... More

What a beautiful location overlooking the Atlantic. Also, we found their food was very well prepared and quite tasty. In September 2013, we had the honor of attending the small and intimate wedding and reception of our son and daughter -in-law at Captain Nickels Inn. We felt it was unfortunate that they ran out of several items on the dinner... More

We’re so sorry to see your not-so-good review. Just to clarify, we do have a clearly defined contract for weddings…with the exception of the final costs for the menu. Initially, we discuss approximate costs for food with a caveat that the final cost depends on “selections made” by the wedding couple, as was the case in this wedding. Unfortunately, the... More

This large inn was formerly a sea captain's mansion and is nestled in a very pretty yard in Searsport. We stayed in the Port of Charleston room, which was decorated with some period furniture and a very comfortable bed. The Keurig coffeemaker was a plus. The bathroom was interesting but cute, as it had original (I presume) fixtures except for... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Captain A.V. Nickels Inn offers luxury accommodations in an historic setting. The Inn, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1874 by Captain Nickels as a gift to his bride. It is a breathtaking building sitting on 3 meandering acres directly on the island-studded Penobscot Bay about halfway between the beautiful towns of Camden and Bar Harbor. The Inn is often cited as one of the most photographed inns on the Maine coast and "creates a memory" for each guest who is treated to a level of luxury and attention to detail usually only seen in exclusive small hotels or inns in Europe. All rooms are furnished with European and American antiques, art, china and decorative touches creating the sophisticated air of a fine country home. Roaring fires on cool evenings, wicker on the lovely front porch, and lawn furniture by the water adds ambiance that invites guests to relax a while and enjoy the beautiful views from expansive windows or from the large decks overlooking the property. Two restaurants on site serve guests well by offering a large selection of locally sourced food (some grown right in our own gardens) expertly prepared by our chef. The bar is well stocked with a large selection of wines and our bartender is always ready to mix our signature cocktails. Common areas include two sitting rooms, a library, a lounge, a dining room, a breakfast conservatory, a ballroom, and a loggia with views to the Bay. Evening wine and cheese is served to all guests. After having slept in spacious suites beautifully furnished with antiques and sumptuous beds, overnight guests awake to the site of the sunrise across the bay and will enjoy a gourmet mimosa breakfast in the Inn's sunlit breakfast conservatory. The murmur of waves from the Bay and wonderful sea air enhance the restful atmosphere. All rooms have private baths, flat screen TVs, wireless internet capabilities, coffee/tea service, and luxurious bath amenities. Some have electric fire places. ... more   less
