Although we didn't rent a cabin here, we enjoyed our meal at Maynard's. Rustic setting and good food. We had roast pork and broiled scallops. Nice view of Moose River. There isn't much to choose from in Rockwood, but Maynard's is a fine choice. BYOB. Call ahead!

We visited Maynards Columbus Day weekend to hike leaf peep. It was the perfect family weekend, all meals were included so we could relax and enjoy the outdoors. The food was fantastic and the picnic lunches hit the spot while we were out hiking. Maynards is an old hunting camp not a Holiday Inn or chain motel, I will say... More

We stayed at Maynard's in Rockwood Maine for 3 nights in August. It is one of a host of New England resorts that was popular in the early 1900's-before the elite jetted across the pond to Europe for vacation. As a result, it has a "has-been" feel to it, but that's also part of its charm. We are two couples-boomer-hippie-low... More

Maynard is an authentic Maine sporting camp, where time has not evolved so much. The full option is really good : great breakfast, lunch pack for hiking, good dinner (Bring your own wine). we had a cabin close to the main house, with a front porch over the river. Kayaking from Maynard to Moosehead lake was great. We would just... More

So, for $80 a night you could be in a Super 8 in Bangor or an EconoLodge in Augusta.....or you could have your own cottage over-looking the Moose River in Rockwood Maine in the heart of moose country and a minute or so from Moosehead Lake! Our choice this year and for many years past is Maynard's, no contest. So... More

Spent the weekend at Maynard's and had a wonderful relaxing weekend. Small cozy cabins with bathrooms. The cabins were spotless when we arrived. Maynard's has a full meal plan if you want it. They cook a standard breakfast. Pack a lunch for the day in a cooler that you pick up at breakfast. Dinner was a choice of two items.... More
