We were very pleased with our stay. Our room was lovely and the staff was super accommodating. They kept our bikes in the basement and let us keep our car there for the afternoon even after we checked out. Free breakfast was very nice - including gluten free!

This is a very quaint B&B in Portland, driving distance from downtown. The rooms go from very small to very large and are well appointed. I would suggest you bring a power strip to plug in your computer, phones, etc. As in most older buildings, there are few outlets. The staff is courteous and while the dining area is very... More

The continental breakfast has improved. The rooms and inn are well appointed. Antiques complimented by modern acquisitions. The staff are helpful. Most of all this is a pleasant inn at a fantastic price and very well positioned to access Portland with ease.

I read previous comments on how friendly the staff was and I could confirm that; however the place is good for one or two nights only. The inn looks very much a British place, lots of stairs so be aware of that when choosing the room- I picked up 2B and it was a little noisy, but the staff tried... More

manus76- Thank you for providing feedback about your recent stay at the Inn. We make it clear on our website and while booking directly through us that we do not have an elevator. Continental breakfast consists of fresh pastries, bagels, muffins, fruit bowl, yogurt, hot and cold cereal, granola bars, a coffee bar and juices. Our staff does a wonderful... More

Was concerned at first with the neighborhood, but the staff was so accommodating and the room was perfect. Left two kayaks on the roof of car all night with no incidents. Although the fire alarm went off at 5:30am the staff handled the situation well and all guests returned to their rooms quickly. We even went back to sleep for... More

khiggs65- Thank you for being so understanding during the fire alarm incident. Yes, our staff was brilliant in handling the situation with calm ease and perfection. The staff is also accommodating to special requests such as deep cleaning rooms for folks who are allergy sensitive. We appreciate your high recommendation and hope to see you again in the future. Other 'Inns' we stayed at in New England were smaller bed and breakfasts but the Inn at Saint John is a larger establishment of 39 rooms on 4 floors in an historic building originally built as a hotel for the new railroad station in 1897. The immediate area is unexciting but it's easy to get to - just a few... More

Peter C- Thank you for your wonderful comments about your stay. Our Inn being 118 years old, we are constantly making improvements to insure every guest has a comfortable and enjoyable visit. The inn is nestled on the edge of Portland's peninsula a short distance to many local attractions. Thank again an wish you well! More

Nice hotel for our family. It was a balance between cost, quality, and location. It is a unique old building that had everything we needed. It does have limited parking with overflow in the Chinese restaurant next door. It does not have an elevator which isn't a big deal to me. Nice, light breakfast included. The rooms have AC from... Ojb100- Glad to hear your family had a great stay with us here at the Inn at St John. Our style sets us apart from all the others by providing great guest service, clean comfortable rooms in a European setting. Being on the edge of the peninsula allows us to keep our rates reasonable and lower than other hotels in... More

We stayed one night at the inn. First impression was that the location was not the best. We parked in the lot, but didn't want to lose our spot (were not comfortable with street parking there), so we walked everywhere we went. Although it's not a fantastic spot, we felt okay walking, though it was a bit far away from... More

We had a beautiful large room with one wall of exposed brick. The room was clean, quite and charming. There was a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The room also had several pieces of beautiful antique furniture. The staff at the desk were friendly and helpful. There was free breakfast as well as free bottled water. Free parking was... More

This 150 year old property is loaded with atmosphere & literally reeks of ambiance. A VERY romantic place to stay. Rooms are large and comfortable and bathrooms have been added to all - as well as AC. Currently they are again updating the property. Staff are most accommodating & most rooms have fridge & coffee makers. Downsides include preposterously steep... More
