I have been staying at the Inn at St. John in Portland over the past ten years and find it ideal for me, a single traveler. I love Portland for it's manageable size and phenomenal number of fine restaurants. The Inn is on one of the primary streets but located in the rather quiet west end of town. It has... More

I'd never been to Portland before and was curious to see a few sights. The prices here were great compared to the chain hotels near the city center. Historic 1890s hotel but well kept-up. There are some decent restaurants nearby, nothing very pricey. But most important it's not far to the downtown/port sights and the restaurants & bars down there... More

This is a far better option than others if you are travelling with a dog. Instead of the faceless decor, high fees, and grumpy service of motels -- you can get all the cool character of the Inn; friendly staff; and a minimal pet fee. This is not a luxury hotel, but it is clean, comfortable, and funky. The breakfast... More

I came to Portland the first weekend of June to kick off my "see all the things one the east coast before moving to the west coast" tour. Miles at the front desk was kind enough to let me in on the haps downtown and then let me stash my bike in the cellar (I worry). My room (11C) was... More

This is by far the best place I have been in many years. I planned a 3 day get-away to Portland for my wife. She loved the Victorian building and the whole staff was beyond friendly, the rooms and grounds were immaculate. The Inn at St. John's made me look like a huge hero to my wife. We will be... More

We stayed here with our son while he was visiting the University of Southern Maine. Room was eclectic having historical decor and modern amenities. Breakfast was amazing and they even had soy milk a definite perk in my book. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was abundant and close to the Inn. Plan on staying many more times here.

I have probably stayed at Inn at St. John 7-8 times and keep coming back. The main reason is the value. Rooms for $80-$100 a night, and the hotel is clean, and the front desk staff are very welcoming? It's been utterly consistent. I usually prefer a bedroom with a private bath, but when I'm feeling thrifty, I've had good... More

This hotel was a perfect 10 at a perfect price. We stayed in a room with a private bath and a king-sized bed: it was spotlessly clean and beautifully turned out. Friendly, helpful staff, complimentary cookies and cold bottled water, comfy bed, a nice continental breakfast spread, WiFi, free parking... what a great find! It's not located in the best... More

Friendly staff. Great breakfast every morning - varied selection and plentiful. We liked that it started at 6:00. Alternative parking lot is helpful for overfill. Best of all - cookies in the afternoon!
