I’ve been coming to Mt. Desert for 30 years. Had always wanted to stay at the Asticou and finally got to in August 2014. I was a bit concerned reading the negative reviews here, but can only say our experience was excellent: James at the front desk was very helpful. Things we didn’t have included dirt, flies, formica, linoleum, peeling... More

The main building seems nice, and the view is spectacular. But because we're a family of four, we stayed in one of the cottages. Impossible to distinguish from a roadside motel from the 70s, which would be fine except for the high end price.

In an effort to avoid the crowds and traffic of Bar Harbor we elected to stay on the quieter "other side" namely Northeast Harbor and specifically the Asticou Inn. Our mission was to enjoy Acadia National Park and the quiet elegance of an old inn. Upon arrival you could almost sense a worse for wear and forgotten property. The inn... More

The main inn looks lovely bit we stayed in the blue spruce building. The deck was rotting and peeling, the screens were falling out, the bathroom too small for family of four, window locks broken, and we were provided a pull out couch as sleeping accommodations for one of our group of four. For the price, I was surprised at... More

Asticou Inn Northeast Harbor As we wanted to stay out of what we heard to be a real tourist buzz of Bar Harbor, we opted for the quieter Northeast Harbor. Asticou Inn is beautifully located with an attractive view on the waterfront harbor. The room with a harbor view we had on the first floor was nicely decorated, the beds... More

We visited this historic inn over 10 years ago. That was nothing like our most recent visit. Although the setting is still beautiful, the inn itself has deteriorated and the quality of service has declined. We stayed in one of the 3 Topsider cottages, which was quiet but cramped. If you like to camp out and don't mind paying $400... More

The Asticou Inn is a quaint Inn on Mt Desert Island Maine near Acadia National Park where we were hiking. The grounds are beautiful and maintained overlooking the harbor, the rooms a bit the worse for wear, are small and somewhat stilted where I had to crawl between bed and wall, around the end of the bed under a dormer... Don't get fooled by the pretty pictures and other reviews. This Inn was probably beautiful in its heyday -- but that was last century. It is clearly not being maintained. Our room had wallpaper peeling off in sheets, broken window frames (which means the room was filled with flies), an ancient window AC unit that we didn't risk trying, and... More

The best thing about the inn is its historic charm and tranquil setting overlooking the harbor. It is also right near Asticou and Thuya gardens, which I highly recommend visiting. We didn't have a five star experience, though. The small room had a chest of drawers that didn't open readily - cheap, not historic. The same can be said of... More

Great place to stay in Acadia area. Staff is outstanding. Great food in the restaurant. Family friendly location. We had a great time during our vacation. You can bring your own wine and hang out in lounge with a view to the harbor.
