This is a great place, and I just wish I could have stayed longer! The backyard was probably my favorite - sloping down to the river, lined with flowers, and all set up with a pair of Adirondack chairs - but the room was lovely too. The decor in the room and the common areas was really nice: cheerful and... More

I am remiss in not writing about the Newcastle Inn before now. My husband and I have visited this Inn for the last 3 years and we're already looking forward to next year. We usually only have time for an overnight stay but this year we were able to enjoy an extra night. Julie has always been so accommodating, even... More

My wife and I just returned from 5 days at the Inn. If you're visiting the Damariscotta area in Maine, the Newcastle Inn is the perfect focal point from which to explore. It's beautifully decorated and maintained and we're already missing the consistently delicious breakfasts on the deck (overlooking the river). It's also within comfortable and pleasant walking distance of... More

We have traveled the Maine coast several times and find that the Newcastle/Darmariscotta area an excellent midcoast choice over the Camden or Boothbay areas. The Newcastle Inn provides good breakfasts, well maintained and furnished rooms and common areas, and plenty of late day snacks and drinks to make for a pleasant stay.

Dear Atticus 10S, Thank you for your review of your stay at Newcastle Inn. You discovered what many other guests have, which is that the Newcastle/Damariscotta area is a perfect central location for exploring many different parts of Maine's MidCoast region. Thank you again for taking time to share your thoughts. Regards, Julie Bolthuis, Owner More

We have traveled up and down the coast of Maine for years, and the Newcastle Inn is the perfect mid-coast location. Our room was lovely and well-appointed with a separate sitting room and spacious bathroom. The Inn has numerous common spaces to get away and relax - there's a great screened porch (our favorite), a pub room with fireplace and... More

Dear Margie H I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Newcastle Inn while exploring the area. There is so much to see and do in this little corner of the world. Like you, the screen porch is my favorite room, and that of many of my guests. I couldn't agree more that the Coastal Maine Botanical... More

Our stay at Newcastle Inn was lovely. Great details in our room, delicious breakfast and super friendly host. The inn and surrounding grounds are very well taken care of. We stayed in one of the bigger rooms and were very comfortable.

Julie, the owner, met us at the door with a warm welcome. The inn is beautiful. The first floor has a large dining area along with common rooms. There is a small butler's pantry where coffee, tea, hot and cold beverages and homemade cookies are available. The outside of the house has beautiful gardens and a place to sit to... More

Delightful traditional New England Inn, big spacious accommodation and in a gorgeous waterside setting. Staff are really friendly and welcoming and breakfast specially cooked and very tasty. Not your standard hotel breakfast. We were very comfortable.

Pros: Lovely B&B with a warm welcome, fine breakfast and excellent quiet location. Lovely grounds with view of river; Wifi excellent Cons: On day after Columbus Day weekend, hard to find an equally classy place to eat. But this seems to be a problem all over Maine. Maine is not Vermont for foodies!

The Newcastle Inn is immaculate and quiet -- but not formal. The owner is friendly but not overly so (you'd be surprised at how quickly we've at times had to eat breakfast due to hovering innkeepers!) and very knowledgeable about the Bristol area. On a quiet road with tall trees, the Inn is a short, pleasant walk to town and... More
