I LOVE the Island Inn! As you approach the island on the ferry, you see her looming ahead, beckoning to you to enjoy a stress free vacation with no tv or phones! There is free wifi at the Inn if you need to 'connect' with the outside world! This is my second visit to the Inn and hopefully this will... More

This was my first time to the Inn and island. I highly recommend visiting the island. The hiking is great and the island is clean. There are trucks on the island so it is definitely noisier than I anticipated. The Inn was nice. Noisy though with all of the doors slamming, I did not sleep well although the beds are... More

We have had many wonderful experiences at the Island Inn. A trip to beautiful Monhegan would not feel complete without at least a night here. From the friendly staff to the delicious breakfasts, it never disappoints. It is not cheap, and be aware that some of the rooms are pretty tiny -- but the feat of running an establishment as... More

The Island Inn sits on the brow of the hill that leads down to the dock and it sits serenely overlooking the harbor. We spent a lot of time sitting in the Adirondack chairs watching the dock activity and reading. The rooms are simple New England style with white curtains blowing in the sea breeze, and down comforters to ward... More

It is hard to put into words the beauty, uniqueness, and splendor of Monhegan Island. For my wife and I, Monhegan was a place unlike we had ever been before. You will not find exciting nightlife or chain restaurants here. But if you're looking for the absolute perfect place to unwind, disconnect from the world, and BREATHE, look no further... More

Timeless old school lodge style hotel updated to current standards in a stunningly beautiful, uniquely peaceful place. The absence of TV and phones is wonderful. If one needs contact the hotel has a main phone and internet wi fi. Last night after a beautiful walk we sat on the porch, watched the sunset and read while listening to someone play... More

Monhegan is a place for respite, wonder and outdoor delight and we could not have had a better base than the Island Inn. The Inn had lovely touches -- a shared guest refrigerator for storing picnic items -- including the Growler from the Monhegan Brewing Company, a crazily delightful find after a few hours of hiking -- and 6:45 coffee... Many people who visit Monhegan rent cottages by the week as opposed to staying at the Inn but schedule a dinner out. Eight of us "rusticators" did exactly that the other night and enjoyed a wonderful meal of transcendently fresh fish, mussels in white wine sauce, super scallops, and chowders. Beautifully prepared to perfection every dish and improved over other... More

I wouldn't stay anywhere else. First of all, you are staying in one of the world's great art icons. The Island Inn must be the most depicted hotel in more paintings than any other. The hotel is New England . The rooms are spare, clean, updated baths, and beautiful. Walls are thin, floors are creaky in this old building. Pay... More

The Island Inn is an unusual vacation experience. Knowing what to expect will help you determine if it's the right place for your trip and prepare you to enjoy it to the fullest. Monhegan is a half-hour boat ride from the coast of Maine. It has no natural water, fuel, or food. Everything but the fish and the lobster comes... More
