I stayed here for a week during the summer and has the most beautiful experience. Monhegan, in general is like walking back in time, and the Yew allows the full experience. There is limited electricity and basic accommodations but I found myself completely taken in to its charm. The land is filled with painters and regulars, and the sounds of... More

Our first stay on the island which we found interesting, great views, quiet and peaceful. The Trailing Yew however is a different story, although a lovely location. The over all feeling of the place is rundown, shabby, and uncared for. The staff was indifferent(we actually never saw anyone who looked like management until we checked out). I believe she was... this hotel is a bit out of the ordinary. It has a rustic feel, which I don't mind. And the location is lovely, Monhegan is a real gem. The staff is nice, the guests are all friendly. Relative to other places on Monhegan (there are only two other hotels) it is a bit less expensive. Breakfast and dinner are included.... More

I'm okay with rustic. Been to many rustic places. Love communal meals (and the food was good). But, in order to get me back to the Yew and, in fact, in order for it to survive, it is long past time to get rid of the old, moldy furniture, beds, linens, etc and bring this place up to acceptable standards.... This was my wife's and my first visit to Monhegan. The Trailing Yew, where we stayed for 2 nights, is a very rustic stay. Food is served family style and the other folks we met were very interesting and we thoroughly enjoyed the interchange. There are few amenities, the windows lack full screens so we fought off mosquitoes well into... More

Monhegan Island, off the coast of Maine, is not your typical vacation island: there is no white sand, no beach boy to bring you a towel or a drink, and definitely no bar for hooking up. There is limited cell service but some internet through the inns and the library. There is a lighthouse museum, art galleries and studios, and... More

The trailing yew is a bit like an old fashioned rustic summer camp for adults. Shared bathrooms, communal dining, no privacy but a warm and welcoming environment. The other guests were bright , warm down to earth nature lovers, artists and others seeking a peaceful quiet getaway at a low price. It's basic , the food average, the beds basic... More

This year marked my 15th time vacationing on Monhegan Island. Each time I have stayed at the Trailing Yew. Not only it is the best value on the island, it also offers the best experience possible. I love the rustic nature of the island and the inn. I suggest reading up on the island and being prepared. I think many... More

My sisters and I came over from New Harbor on the early ferry so we had almost 2 full days on the island. We were met at the dock by the Inn's truck, our bags were driven to the inn and we walked up - less than 10 minutes. Monhegan is really laid back, it is a place for rejuvenation,... More

This past week was my 23d year's stay at the Yew. I went there in 1988, and have never considered staying anywhere else. Of course, from year to year, food and staff vary a little, and some years both are better than in other years. On the whole, however, this is one of my husband's and my favorite places on... More
