First time to Baxter after we put it on the list a few years back. It's a bit out there but that helps to keep the crowds away. We lucked out with reservations as we're not from Maine and the reservation process favors Maine residents (it's a mail in system so you're basically part of a lottery). Anyway, we got... More

We had a great time at katahdin stream campground. The place was clean and quiet. If you are a true outdoor person you will love staying here. You have to bring all your water and pack out trash. The latrines were good as far as latrines go. Wood is cheap. We walked to grassy pond and canoed for only one... More

WE arrived a day early at the park. The campground was full but we were lucky and snagged a cabin instead. WE had a beautiful setting on a lake with mountains in the background. When visiting the park plan extra time for the drive in. the road into the park is a dirt road. The drive to our cabin took... More

Located in the northern section of the park next to Lower South Branch Pond. Well kept, clean camp ground with a mix of lean to's and campsites. Drive in access. No running water. Outhouses only (compared to those found elsewhere on the appalachain trail, these were very clean.) Campsites were a bit close together. Would recommend any of the lean... More

We stayed at Nesowadehunk campground in the park and it was beautiful! We were camped within hearing distance of a family with a crying baby. We had to cart our stuff to our site, but it was a short walk. There are no showers or running water, but it worked for us as a place to stay overnight before hiking... More

Very rustic and simple yet pristine campgrounds. No electricity, running water or trash bins. Outhouses only for bathroom facilities. Limited lean to and bunk facilities otherwise tents. No RVs allowed. Beautiful scenery and running brooks. Don't forget your bug spray. Mainers are intent in keeping the grounds this way and are vigilant about it. Few crowds. Well kept secret compared... More
