We stayed at the Herbert Grand Hotel in the lovely village of Kingfield while attending the wedding of our grandson and his fiancée. It is a very old hotel and the only one in town. We had reserved the "family suite" which was a queen room plus a room with twin beds. When we entered the lobby, we were pleased... More

We planned to stay at this hotel 2 nights (July 18th and 19th 2014) in room 301. Our room did not offer basic comfort for that price: very small room, no practical furniture (no luggage support, one too large chest of drawers, one out of date and dirty bedside table), a small pillow, a very, very soft mattress (we didn't... This hotel sucks. Service is non existent and the mattresses have to be over 50 years old. You have to pay in full up front and there are "no refunds," gee, I wonder why. It used to be a nice hotel until it was bought out by a New York attorney who has his mom run it. This place is... More

Don't let the looks of this place deceive you.The outside of the building looks decent and the lobby is charming with old decor and antique phone booths, but that is it for the positives. The room that I stayed in was completely dingy and decorated with a light blue-green wallpaper with only one tiny picture hanging on the far wall. There was a... Went up to Kingfield for the Sugarloaf Marathon and stayed here because of the proximity to the finish line (about a half mile, easy walk) and very reasonable rates. The hotel was great and everyone was VERY friendly. Quiet, clean, and very comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel, especially for any marathoners. Great food right across the street too!

...but this place is a dump. First, the good things. It looks really grand...from the outside. The owner and probably only person taking care of the place is really nice but time to hire more people. Ok, there is a cleaning lady and she was really rude. I was only 5 minutes over checkout time and got scold at. Everything... More

The Herbert Grand Hotel is overpriced. The room was very dated with old pictures, wall paper and a bathroom that needs to be completely redone. The bathroom tub/shower had some type of jacuzzi/steam-bath feature but the knobs were missing and the tub itself look too dirty to sit in if it did work. There was also limited towel in the... More

We keep going back to the Herbert several times a year to enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the hotel and all of the activities in the area. Clean rooms, friendly staff, warm and welcoming surroundings -- what is not to love? Reasonable prices, too. The strong WiFi signal lets us stream movies in our room (thank God for grandsons who... I ski and snowboard all over the Northeast and I am always looking to spend as much time on the slopes as I can without going broke. Dude, this place rocks. The rooms are clean, the people working there are friendly and make me feel welcome (they let me take my snowboards and skis to the room -- and there's... More
