Be sure to engage with Dawn and the local people to learn the history of the hotel. Many who have stayed here say it's haunted. One bride left the night of her honeymoon because she said she couldn't make it through the night. Beware of the third floor! :) Seriously. It's a charming place. If you want Comfort Inn then... I paid $124 for a one night stay. The room was small and old (peeling paint on baseboards, no temperature control (I slept in my winter coat), rust, dust, and generally dingy. You can hear people in the hallway - they actually might be in a room (thin walls and doors) and coming up stairs. It's midnight and can't sleep... More

Definitely a step back in time when you come to Kingfield Maine and stay at the Grand. The service was Maine friendly and the rooms were clean. Don't expect any modern furnishings the but do enjoy the quiet old style comfort. No in room TV but they do have WiFi.

Check in- Dawn greeted us upon arrival. Dawn was very nice ! fast old fashion style with normal metal keys Room- very small. No tv. If you are just looking for a clean , safe, historic place to sleep this is great. If you looking for amenities & luxury accommodations this is not the place to come. Personally my father... More

I was quoted one rate for the room over the phone and then my card charged over $50 more. I was also told there would be a complimentary continental breakfast, only to discover there was no breakfast served at all! The rooms were shabby. Also there was a very strong odor of gas that permeated the hallways and first floor

We stayed here prior to skiing in the Main Huts with our two children. The rooms were spacious and the staff friendly. We were upgraded to a king suite. The beds were comfortable and the shower was fine. The jacuzzi tub did not fill with hot water. Otherwise everything was satisfactory. Would return.

We've been staying here for years and will continue to do so. It's a straightforward six-hour drive from Ottawa and if you're in shopping mode it's day-tripping distance to Freeport (LL Bean etc), the coast in general, Bangor, you name it. If you want to just hang out, you're fifteen minutes from Sugarloaf and biking, hiking, walking.... Kingfield benefits greatly... More

This was our first stay at the Herbert and would stay there again. Walking into the lobby was like taking a step back in time to the turn of the century. The lobby was beautiful with the vintage woodwork and furniture. Dawn was gracious and friendly loved talking with her. The rooms were perfect for what we wanted. The beds... More

We've been staying at the Grand Herbert for years and have always loved the atmosphere. It is like stepping back in time! The rooms are clean and Dawn is very friendly. The front lobby is gorgeous. A bonus for us is to sit upstairs on the old balcony and watch the world go by then walk across the street to... More
