The Edgewater Inn has long-been a favorite location for my family and I to eat breakfast in town. The inn, formerly called "The Green Heron" was a local wonder, with breakfast that were legendary. From the 1970's to the 1990's, the GH offered richly made, from-scratch breakfasts that were complimented by a towering daily fruit list. We marveled at how... More

The newly renovated Edgewater Inn is absolutely beautiful. It is so warm and inviting. It has a home-away-from-home feel to it. I have been there for breakfast with my family and the food is delectable. There is a breakfast club for the locals (of which I am) and it is now my new favorite place. The quality is second to... Let me start by saying that we have been staying at the Green Heron Inn (now known as The Edgewater Inn) for over 15 years. For several years we brought our daughters and would reserve "our room" for the same week every year. We enjoyed staying connected with other families that would do the same. Many friendships were forged. As... More

Our visits to Kennebunkport are always a highlight of our summers and winters. We have come to the Green Heron (now the Edgewater Inn) for 20 years, and we have always enjoyed wonderful hospitality and local charm. We enjoyed talking with the owners and innkeepers over breakfast, and my son always enjoyed specialized pancakes created in the shapes of whatever... More

After spending over 20 years where we made wonderful friends and memories I am sad to say our stay at the Green heron has come to an end. Now known as the Edgewater Inn spending time there this august while renevations were going on we went in feeling optimistic that this all would be worth it in the end, but... More

After staying at the Green Heron for 12 years, we were excited to see that the new owners were investing time and effort into much needed renovations. This is where the improvements end. Gone is the local charm of the inn. The feel is now cold, with no encouragement of camaraderie in the communal living room. Where there once was... More

We stayed at the Green Heron in back in early September in the little cottage which had been newly renovated and was still having some outside work done on it. If not for the water feature we had during the night the cottage although small would have been fine for our vacation plans but the new owners were very accommodating... More

This has been our place to stay for many years. It is now with new owners and updates are underway. There are many great improvements to the rooms, common areas, and outside. Breakfast is still served only to the guests and it is very good, down from outstanding. Future changes remain an unknown as there are plans to open to... More

We stayed at Green Heron Inn towards the end of July '12 for four nights - and wish it had been longer. The new owners are improving the property - which appeared in many areas to have been a little neglected over the years. There was little disruption for us considering new flooring was being laid etc. It seemed to... More

I had been a regular guest at this inn for the past six years. In fact, I normally block my reservation for the following year as I am checking out, but not this year. I had been looking forward to the warm greeting by Dan and the luscious choice of either a savory or sweet breakfast prepared by Tony every... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Edgewater Inn, formally known as The Green Heron Inn one of Kennebunkport's historic Inns, is located on Ocean Avenue, in one of the town's most charming neighborhoods. It sits adjacent to an estuarine cove, near the mouth of the Kennebunk river and just around the bend from President George Bush's vacation home on Walkers Point. Overnight stays include a 3-course breakfast in the “on the edge” restaurant from eight to ten. Homemade cookies, cake, infused water, coffee and tea from two to four. Ice, bottle water and truffles for turn-down service nightly. The Inn was built in the early 1900's as a boarding house that provided shelter and breakfast for weary travelers. Twelve guest rooms including a cove side cottage, thirty-two seat restaurant. Its location, which combines the beautiful surrounding of the Kennebunk River and the convenience of its proximity to all major Kennebunkport attractions, contributed to its popularity from its early days. That tradition continues today. While relaxation at The Edgewater Inn is an art in itself, activities abound in the surrounding area. Guests enjoy rejuvenating walks along the rocky shore, enjoy the sun on the sandy beach, explore the numerous galleries and shops in Dock Square, watch the wildlife and the birds as they gather near the water next to the inn, or spend a sunny day on one of the nearby golf courses. ... more   less
