We enjoyed a two day, two night winter visit to remote Little Lyford as part of a week long snowshoe trip in the Maine backwoods. Clean updated cabins, heated by wood. Cabins and bunkhouse share modern heated bath, shower and sauna. No cell service. Meals served in the lodge family style. Breakfasts were the best meal of the day. Dinners... More

Rustic but comfy cabins in a remote snow-bound wilderness. What a welcoming crew! The hot sauna is restorative and the sense of history is ever present as you look at the photos on the walls showing the old days of fishing and logging. We loved the lodge to lodge trail from Gorman Chairback and the ski trails around the lodge... More

Food was fantastic, staff knowledgeable and helpful, the cabin was spotless and well-appointed. Loved the sauna, too! I couldn't recommend this place more highly! I'll come back another year for sure.

We having been going for a few days every winter for years. There is no controlling the weather, and it can be pretty dicey, but once you arrive it's always warm and cozy (provided you keep your wood stove going). The food is great, the staff warm and knowledgeable, the sauna is hot, and it's always fun to chat with... More

We did a 3-day guided tour with the AMC. The great thing is that you only need to carry a day pack with water, some snacks, and some extra layers. The AMC picks up all of your overnight gear (sleeping bags, clothes, snowshoes, etc) and transports it magically by snowmobile to the lodge. We started at the Winter Parking Lot... More

Little Lyford is amazing! We skiied in on a supercold day - and we were knocked out when we arrived at a beautiful, toasty warm lodge with hot drinks and snacks waiting for us...plus the woodstove in our cabin was already fired up so our cabin was cozy too. Delicious meals and a marvelous staff. We explored around Gulf Hagas... More

If you're looking for a back-country ski-in destination in New England, I don't see how you can do better than this. About seven miles in from the parking lot, Little Lyford is a village-like cluster of beautiful old log cabins, each of them fully renovated, clean, warm and tight, with wood stoves that keep them toasty regardless of outside temperatures.... Little Lyford is the way to do winter. Ski in to this beautiful, remote, but highly civilized place. Great food, interesting company, and relaxed, off the grid recreation. Cross country ski, snowshoe, eat, sleep, stoke the fire, read. Highly recommend! Go prepared (temps were between -19 and 39 last weekend) and you will be rewarded with a great experience. AMC... We really enjoyed our stay in the Little Lyford Cabins. The cabins themselves were comfortable and easy to heat. It was mindblowing to see real and comfortable mattresses, hot showers and such abundant food in the middle of complete wilderness. You can ski in or take a snowmobile (at extra cost, normally), but when trail conditions faltered, the staff were... More

This was our first visit to an AMC lodge, and we will definitely be back for a longer stay. Went on a COLD January weekend, just for an overnight. In the winter, you ski or snowshoe in from the winter parking area. It's a minimum of 6 miles on logging roads, or you can take a longer route on smaller,... More
