We have been back to the AMC's Gorman Chairback 3 times now. It's that good. Superb setting, great food, friendly staff, and off the grid. Seeing your teenage kids read books on the porch overlooking the lake, up early to pursue trout on the lake, laying on the dock at night looking for meteors or singing at a campfire with... More

Walden Pond in the 21st century. Come here if you are looking for a beautiful and peaceful place, digital detox included for free. You will talk to friendly people if you want but won't have to. You will be carefree. No locks and no keys.

Great get-away to a peaceful setting with many different activities and great food and service. Swimming, hiking, canoeing and more in a serene spot. You go to slepp to the sound of loons on the lake! Its open year round and the experience will be different depending on the season. We intend to go back in the winter for XX... More

We stayed at Gorman Chairback Lodge over the July 4th holiday and had a wonderful time. One of our favorite things about staying here was that you can use the canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards as much as you like during your stay. They have so many boats that you never have to wait to use one. I also highly... More

I’m a fan of the Appalachian Mountain Club (and a member). The AMC runs these cabins. I’ve been to this location, and it’s very beautiful. My two-star rating is for the misleading, perhaps deceptive, pricing. I recently tried to reserve a cabin at Gorman Chairback. A one-room cabin with a queen-sized bed, the smallest cabin there. I entered the number... More

Gorman Chairbackis a special place, at the end of Long Pond, with beautiful lake and woods views. The cabins are comfortable, with wood stoves, good insulation and comfortable beds with sheets and blankets provided. Some have bathrooms, but the most charming are the restored cabins right on the water's edge. The food is delicious and plentiful and the staff is... More

I adore everything about this lodge. The staff couldn't be more helpful. And they were the kind of people in hospitality who asked you if you needed something before you even realized you did. The light pours into the public spaces, including the spacious dining room and the lovely reading room with its gorgeous handmade hearth. This is the kind... More

As two couples, we couldn't have had a better experience - an ample cabin with bathroom and shower and a lovely lodge with fantastic food and staff - for our last night in the Maine Woods. The staff provide more than any of us could eat for breakfast and dinner along with a large sandwich with sides (chips, cookies, gorp)... More

We made our third winter trip to Gorman Chairback in February. Most folks ski in about 6-8 miles (depending on route) and the AMC brings your luggage so you ski with a daypack. The skiing was great with groomed trails. The staff were friendly and went out of their way for us. The food was great. We enjoyed the sauna... More

We spent two days and nights at Gorman Chairback as the last leg of our week long West Branch Pond-Little Lyford-Gorman snowshoe trek in the Maine back woods. We stayed in cabin 9, one of two new "deluxe" cabins with in-cabin bathrooms, propane heat and power. Most cabins are older, clean with wood heat and propane lamps and share bathrooms,... More
