I stayed here with my 12 year old son for two nights and we had a great time. The staff are great, the cabins are rustic but incredibly comfortable, and the food is outstanding. We took our trail lunches out on some kayaks for the day and explored the lake. At night when I asked if we could build a... More

My husband and I recently stayed at Gorman Chairback for three days to cross country ski. We arrived just a few days after the area had received a 15 inch snowfall, so the conditions were perfect. Greenville, ME is just that much farther north so the average temperatures preserve the snow, so don't be discouraged if on your drive up,... More

We recently skied in to Gorman Chairback lodge then onto Little Lyford Lodge the next day and back to the starting point at the winter parking area on the third day. Each leg took about 3 hours to accomplish - a 6-8 mile ski on easy trails. Being rather out of shape I was worried about being able to do... More

During our two stays in Maine AMC lodges, we've had the luck to have Chef Duncan as our host both times. From Portland, he is a true gourmet chef, and finding such a fine dining experience in the Maine woods is remarkable. Try and ascertain exactly where he will be cooking (Little Lyford Pond Camps, or Gorman Chairback Lodge) before... More

Over the years we have enjoyed the Appalachian Mountain Club's high mountain huts but we are getting a little old for the experience of backpacking into the hut and sleeping in a bunkroom with a snoring strangers. Gorman Chairback solves this problem by providing a remote and beautiful location that we can drive to, comfortable private cabins, and hot showers... More

Everything was beautiful at Gorman Chairback. The new main Lodge is beautiful, the bathrooms are clean and spacious, the cabins are great (plenty of wood for the woodstove, very comfortable beds, spacious cabins) the location is beautiful and convenient to a handful of great hikes and canoe/kayak trips, and the staff is friendly. The food is good and you will... More

we attended a LL Bean Discovery School class at the Gorman Chairback Lodge. we went for the LL Bean school, but we will be back for the lodge. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. The food was very good.Much better than I ever would have expected at a wilderness lodge, and the cooks did not hestitate to adjust... More

I've been to Gorman Chairback three times over the past couple of years--every time it just gets better and better. Staff is super friendly, food is good (and I'm fussy), accommodations tremendous. Be aware, it is "rustic"--many of the cabins require using outhouses, but the main lodge does have hot showers and a wood fired sauna. Cabins--some of them antiques,... More

he perfect place for a winter retreat, Gorman offers a beautiful new lodge overlooking Long Lake and surrounded by evergreens. Plenty of room to relax around the fire in the lodge each night, reading, playing cards or board games, or just getting to know interesting guests from all over the country as well as abroad, along with the terrific staff... I almost do not want to review this place because once people know about it it will be impossible to get a reservation! We (4 friends and I) came the weekend of Feb 3, 2012. We arrived at the winter parking lot at 11 am, tagged and left our bags in the shed as instructed, and skied about 7 miles... More
