Facilities mostly circa early 1960s. Some rooms upgraded with new beds and room repaint. Long term ownership changed 3-5 years ago. Seemingly changed motel name to update image; however, current operations have not changed in past 2-3 years. I.E.: (1) Office seems to close mid-afternoon with no signage to alert potential guests on how or who to contact to rent... More

We purchased a Group On for this hotel several months ago. They have since changed their name, but I do not see if reflected on Trip Advisor, and I wanted to do the review because I really felt like they deserved a great review. Yes, this is not a luxury hotel, but the atmosphere is 4 star. The staff are... More

We have had a positive experience. After driving around boothbay we were very pleased that we had chosen this motel. Quaint resort. Rooms are clean and nicely done. I love having a deck. Friendly staff. Pool is great. Views are great. I would recommend. Nice and quiet...

Nice place. Big tide range, went right under our room. Clean, simple. Close to Boothbay but much quieter. Good snorkeling! Nice area to bike from, short steep hills and gorgeous scenery with lighthouses. Wifi weak but OK near front office. Nice view, pool, sailing and canoe rentals. Has a neat little general store nearby. Lots to do in this area--... More

This hotel was wonderful. We stayed in the lobster lodge room which was further up away from the water but still had a great view of the pool and the cove. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The curtains and carpet as well as the actual building were a bit outdated looking but that didn't matter ver much. We... More

The smuggler's cove inn, now under the new name of The Sunset Beach Resort is the "best kept secret in Maine!" The rooms are cozy with fantastic views. It is so tranquil and peaceful there. The staff is friendly and willing to help, they even let us switch rooms so we could be closer to our friends who were also... More

We decided to try Sunset Beach (new name) because of a Groupon offer. It was a most adequate hotel at a reasonable price. The view from the balcony is amazing and the staff very friendly and helpful. Our balcony door was off the rail and I called and someone arrived to fix it within a minute! Linens and towels appear... More
