My husband and I were traveling with friends and had already spent an unpleasant night in Camden at another B&B when we saw the Hawthorne and fell in love. It was late in the afternoon when we phoned the Hawthorne to inquire on availability and the Innkeeper, Maryanne, enthusiastically invited us up to see the Inn. She gave us a... more

Camden is one of the most picturesque villages and harbors in Maine. The Hawthorn Inn is the perfect location to enjoy Camden and the surrounding areas. The Inn is a spacious mansion with lovely and spacious grounds. The Inn is a very short walk into the village and harbor. In the morning guests are served a lovely gourmet breakfast, the... more

The innkeepers attended to the smallest of details. The food was not only delicious, but beautiful as well. The help was kind and helpful. They ironed all our wedding clothes too! The innkeepers were very gracious throughout our stay. The layout of the rooms made it easy to be comfortable with a large family with several generations. The physical grounds... more

My wife (fiance at the time) and I visited Camden in March of 2009 to find a place to stay with our friends and family for our wedding. We live in Southern California and wanted to get married in Camden. We read reviews of many bed and breakfasts and were eager to meet Maryanne (the Innkeeper) and see the Hawthorn.... more

We recently stayed in here while in Camden, and had a pleasant stay. The room was very nice (Turret Room) with the exception of the bathroom, which was small. And we've stayed in Cinque Terre, where small bathrooms are legendary, but this one might take the cake. We were warned about it, but booked it anyway. Good thing we are... more

We've been to Camden before, but this was our first time at The Hawthorn, and as it turned out it was a great decision. I had done a great deal of research and preparation for our trip and I recognized during my first telephone conversation with the Innkeeper, Maryanne Shanahan, that here was a real pro. Soon after arrival I... more

The Hawthorn Inn is located close to everything you want to see in Camden, yet far enough from the center to provide a sense of separation from the hubbub. The hosts are generous with time and service -- truly above and beyond the call of duty. The breakfasts are imaginative - something different each day, with the freshest ingredients and... more

The Hawthorn Inn is a beautiful Victorian with a feel of home. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy Camden and its waterfront and restaurants, a short walk away. Maryanne and Bill are superb hosts and the breakfasts are special. more

May 7, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

I have visited the Hawthorn several times, and have always been delighted with all aspects of my visit there. This time around, proprietor Maryanne Shanahan and her husband Bill went way beyond what anyone would expect of innkeepers. I tripped and fell while walking in town, bruising and straining my hand and arm. Maryanne not only accompanied me to the... more

I booked a six-night stay at the Hawthorn Inn, and it was a super value all around. It is a lovely Victorian inn on a quiet street with beautiful gardens in back, but it's only a short walk to the harbor and the shops. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the staff was delightful and gave lots of personal attention,... more
