The international motel was very clean, spacious and comfortable and we found the staff to be very friendly. We enjoyed watching the tidal fluctuation of the St. Croix River from our room, walking into town and across the bridge to Canada and going next door to the diner for breakfast and dinner, where the meals were good and reasonably-priced. more

We had a riverview room, said to be the newer part of the property. The room was clean. The TV was modern. The view of the river was close and picturesque. The price was reasonable. There was a man (another guest?) playing a guitar on the balcony. I said "nice music" and he said "Thanks, I've been thrown out of... more

Pretty average motel. No surprises, good or bad. You will get noise from adjacent rooms. The town's riverfront walking trail goes through the property. Get a riverview room if you want to watch the tidal fluctuation in the river. A bit pricey for what you get. more

I have stayed at the Calais Motor Inn and thought I was at the Bates Motel!! This time I tried the International and am so very glad I did. It's clean and while it's basic, it is CLEAN! That's something this area seems to forget--travelers don't have to have luxury, but we do want things to be clean and not... more

Not sure what all the whining and fuss is about. No, this isn't the Four Seasons, and no, Calais, Maine is not like Calais, France! It is a tiny run-down border town and the gateway to Canada's Maritime provinces. This part of Maine also offers some of the best fishing and hunting in the world. If you want Bald eagles,... more

stayed in a riverview unit on work, for a week in february, The room was always clean when i returned from work each night and the bed was relatively comfortable. Rest assured, you are not walking into a 4 star hotel, you get a basic clean room with a small tv, free internet and an economical bathroom. But if thats... more

The room was filthy, the towels stunk, I did not want to walk across the carpet. This is the worst place to stay in Calais, and I have stayed in them all. It smelled like [--]. more

We recently came to Calais to visit some friends in the area and somehow missed all the bad reviews of the motel. Since all reviews that we read promised a clean stay, and many other motels in the area were booked for those nights, we decided to book both nights there. The first night at the motel we noticed a... more

I travel to the Downeast Maine region weekly for work and have stayed at the International Hotel numerous times. Sometimes I am there every week. I travel and work with my dog and it is a great place to stay if you are traveling with a pet. There is a trail to walk along the river, things have always been... more
