This hotel was the worst place I have ever stepped foot in. So bad, that we checked into our room, took a tour of it and the bathroom, and left to stay at another hotel. I spent money on two different hotels simply because I could not bear to even stand in that room. Stains all over the carpet and... More

From the minute we arrived, we should have left. It was like staying at The Adam's Family home. Dingy, creepy & musty are the only adjectives for this place. Bangor should be embarrassed this place is open. Downtown Bangor is a dump & this place fits right in. I've seen better crack houses than this hotel. We were booked for... More

This has been a fascinating experience. This hotel is, as promoted, "truly unique." The hotel owner is lovely and has created an atmosphere you can sink into as soon as you enter the doors. The rooms have four poster beds, they are spacious suites appointed with antiques. We arrived mid-October and the lobby was festooned with Halloween decorations that made... More

Should have forfeited price of one night stay after walking into lobby and seeing it so run down. It only got worse. Lobby, hallway and room carpeting badly stained, drapes were falling off rods, light bulbs burned out in lamp by reading chair. The room, when painted, had splatters everywhere - bathroom facets, light switch plates, etc. This did not... More

If you look at their website, thoughts about quaint or charming might spring to mind. Once my wife and I arrived there, we unfortunately realized that the stage where this hotel was quaint or charming was way in the past. It is a hotel that has "gone to seed." Disheveled would be a good word for it. We had booked... More

The Charles Inn definitely does not live up to the image presented on their website. I should have done more research. The Inn is kind of dingy and is badly in need of some updating. The staff was kind of strange and the overall ambiance was kind of creepy. (This is Stephen King's home town. The Inn's feel seemed appropriate.)... More

Got here at about midnight after twenty-four hours on a variety of planes and coaches. Actually finding the place confused us briefly because we walked in and thought we'd accidentally gone into the pub next door instead, but that's jet lag for you. Within ten minutes, we'd settled in and worked out how to turn up the air conditioning. Following... More

We stayed two nights at the Charles Inn and were quite happy with the atmosphere, rooms and service. Keep in mind that this is independently owned and in an older building before booking. If you're looking for something standardized by the big chains this place wont be for you. The rooms feature older mahogany and wooden amenities which we felt... More

I didn't sleep a wink. The bed was so hard and old that I struggled to find comfort. Literally woke up with a kink in my back. I do have to say though the lady working the front desk was very accommodating. As I forgot my charger and she loaned me her personal one.

This hotel needs a new owner and renovation. It could be restored to a grand old hotel as it's very charming and interesting inside. However, the owner seems to be drowning trying to keep it open. The beds, mattresses and furniture is quite old and in need of repair. It's dark and dingy. I stayed there a couple of times,... More
