I stayed in this hotel because I had to spend the night in Bangor coming from Canada by bus and to resume my trip the next morning by Greyhound. The inn is really old and its age is showing. They are still using keys in this inn instead of the smart cards to open the room's door. The room I... more

It looks super old and they clearly haven't updated anything ever. The bed was uncomfortable and although there was no visible dirt, it didn't feel very clean. The A/C was barely functioning. more

This hotel is a casual and quiet place to stay if you can handle a bit of fray around the edges. Contrary to the reviews I've read here, The Charles does not stink, the host is not a harridan and the dog is adorable. I'm writing this as I sit in the well lit lounge, using the free wi-fi and... more

The hotel is kinda cute - as mentioned previously, it is operated by the owners and they are trying really hard. The manager met me on the reception and she was very friendly and helpful. I got a room right off the reception area, which I was a little worried about on account of noise, but it was fine. The... more

Found this wonderful hotel on the internet. Although I was a bit hesistant due to the "mixed" reviews...I trusted what the favorable reviews stated..and won. Meeting a gf there, and not knowing the area, as soon as I got in town I had placed a call to the hotel to see if she had gotten there yet. She had, but... more

We stayed at this hotel for a 2 day holiday. We love hotels with character and this one is charming. Congratulations to the owner for keeping a landmark property open. Granted it needs TLC but we loved the downtown location and the friendly atmosphere. This is the type of accommodation which is memorable, not the "everyroom sameness" of the chain... more

My wife and I planned a getaway and came across The Charles Inn on the web. The B&B called itself Maine's first inn and art gallery with a cozy dining area for breakfast. They go on to say that the Charles Inn rooms "are decorated with refined details to offer stylish comfort and a sophisticated yet relaxing ambiance... The Charles... more

My sister and I were driving from Vermont to Nova Scotia and we needed a place to rest our heads along the way. The Charles Inn is located right downtown in Bangor - we arrived fairly late in the evening but noticed there were quite a few restaurants/pubs/shops in the vicinity. The owner was very friendly and we had no... more

Oh, it's got character all right.. and not the kind you want to meet in a dark alley. I consider myself fairly well traveled, and I like to stay in those non-franchised kind of places, which is why I chose the Charles Inn. But from the creepy broken glass covered "parking lot" to the smelly, dirty rooms, all I got... more

Before we had taken this escape weekend for our anniversary we had booked ahead and taken the advice of people who we have never met. We were told that this Hotel was completely newly renovated and was a very nice place to stay!!! We arrived at the Hotel and walked through the doors and ran into the smell of a... more
