I love this place! I stayed there twice recently and really enjoyed the Inn, it's atmosphere and location downtown. If you like old, historic buildings and great music almost every night you will enjoy your stay here! The rooms were cozy and very clean. I loved to go downstairs to the quaint little bar in the evenings to listen to... More

We spent one night in this place and it was a unique experience. This place can be recommended to anyone who does not mind sleeping in linen that someone else has already used, having bagels for breakfast that are three days old, walking on carpeting that has not seen a cleaning in many years etc. etc. In one word this place... If you stop here, make sure you have good directions; GPS did not get me there, and there was no way to live-park near the front door to unload. When I called for help, the voice mail said it was full—no answer for 30 mins. Staff was entirely indifferent to this when I arrived, and equally unconcerned in the morning... More

I drove to Bangor in the evening and stayed overnight before flying out in the morning. For such a stopover, this is a good choice. It's right downtown, so a lot of restaurants and bars are available in walking distance, including next door and directly across the street. The actual hotel is clearly old and as other reviewers have said,... More

Old as the hills but has some character. Bar in the main lobby with 100+ beers. When you first enter the Inn and bar it looks pretty sketchy....but they were friendly. Everything in the place is ancient, slow elevators, very little ice, no pool, really no features at all. Very close to waterfront and is in walking distance to the... More

I feel obliged to defend the Charles Inn. I am from Ireland and my wife is from Maine and we visit every year to stay with her folks. To cut a long story short, we get the bus up from Boston Airport and spend the night in Bangor. For the past few years we always stay in the Charles Inn.... More

Every time I've been there I've had to wait 10+ min to even get the bartenders attention. After getting his attention I have to deal with the driest and most apathetic attitude a bartender could have. But it only gets worse. If 10+ minutes sounds rough, imagine getting forgotten about completely. Drinks are not even that good, place has a... More

The room was nice but there was no a/c we had to go out and buy a fan or 25 bucks and get an extention cord to plug it in. The tv was rom the last century and had no remote we where told they had run out of remotes. They have great in house bands right below your room... More

Matress was shot. Room smelled of mildew. The water in sink didn't work. The room was very small. Few stations on a very small TV. After one night, we decided we would camp out in the rain or sleep in the car before we would spend another minute in that dive. I have traveled for over 40 years and this... More

based on the description, you'd expect a quaint Victorian decorated hotel. It is not. It's nice, but at $100+ a room, it's over priced. The lobby is filled with lovely (and pricey) local art and the rooms are iffy. They're a little dirty and need to be updated with new carpet and some paint. The bathrooms are modern and clean....
