We stayed recently after a show at the Waterfront Pavilion. You couldn't ask for a better location, easy walk from the Pavilion and near lots of bars and restaurants. Hotel Impossible recently did some filming there, but I'm not sure how much of a difference the show made. The lobby is beautiful, but I don't think the renovations went any... More

Before our trip to Bangor, I spent days trying to decide this older place downtown with the mixed reviews and several chain hotels on the highway. Decided that for one night, I'd take a chance on the Charles and I am so glad! Sure, it could be refurbished, and it would be better with more electrical outlets and mod cons.... More

They advertise themselves to be the best hotel in Bangor, the only hotel with an art gallery. If they are the best, I would hate to see the worst. Their idea of an art gallery is several pieces of amateur art hanging from a wall in a hallway that smells of urine. This hotel should be closed for renovations. The... More

Its not a terrible hotel. It just severely needs to be updated. The carpets are all stained, the walls need to be cleaned, and repainted. The housekeepers seem to work very hard.... but theres not much they can do unless the owner decides to renovate. The front desk is absolutely nothing but a giant clutter of papers and junk. I... I should have known that I was in trouble when I looked at the cleanliness of just the front desk. The woman there has papers, and junk strewn all over it and had no real system of keeping track of which rooms were clean and available. In fact, she had to go check out our room before we were allowed... More

For an experience in the downtown night life of Bangor there is no better place! The location is ideal with local and ethnic cuisine close at hand, sports, entertainment and shopping venues as well. The rooms maybe dank, but they are also roomy and comfortable. And, the bar/pub seems to be a favorite for reasonable music and drinks. Prices are... More

I wanted to really like this Old once stately Hotel, it represented what I love...it had a history, it was once a beautiful old building and it sits proudly downtown, in a good location, but it was such a disappointment. It was very needy, dingy, dark and sad. Our room was large and that was a plus, but the box... More

This hotel was the worst place I have ever stepped foot in. So bad, that we checked into our room, took a tour of it and the bathroom, and left to stay at another hotel. I spent money on two different hotels simply because I could not bear to even stand in that room. Stains all over the carpet and... More

From the minute we arrived, we should have left. It was like staying at The Adam's Family home. Dingy, creepy & musty are the only adjectives for this place. Bangor should be embarrassed this place is open. Downtown Bangor is a dump & this place fits right in. I've seen better crack houses than this hotel. We were booked for... More

This has been a fascinating experience. This hotel is, as promoted, "truly unique." The hotel owner is lovely and has created an atmosphere you can sink into as soon as you enter the doors. The rooms have four poster beds, they are spacious suites appointed with antiques. We arrived mid-October and the lobby was festooned with Halloween decorations that made... More
