We found The Driftwood 37 years ago & it is a "must stay" every trip to Maine. If you're looking for plush pampering, this is not for you. However, if you want peaceful, relaxing beauty, it doesn't get any better than The Driftwood. The atmosphere (to me) is quaint, rustic, "the real Maine", rooms are knotty-pine walled, clean, & cozy.... More

The Driftwood Inn has the highest view per dollar of any place we have stayed in the entire world. That's all we need to say. Yes it is old, not fancy and the rooms are small. The staff is quite nice and helpful, but don't expect the Four Seasons treatment. Just go and sit on your porch and watch the... More

This is a quintessential, One-Morning-in-Maine experience on an island of fishermen and non-mega-mansion summer homes where people go to church fish dinners, dances in old halls, hike, clam and I imagine play canasta. There is little reception for your cell phone or computer; no television; no movie theaters but the inn is great and hangs over the ocean. I was... More

Ever since discovering The Driftwood Inn, we go back every chance we get. In a word, the place is simply ‘magical’. Owned and operated by a member of the same family that built it over a century ago, The Driftwood preserves something of another time that has mostly disappeared. Sitting on top Thunder Hole where the locals come to see... More

The Driftwood looked great online. It is a beautiful location however there needs to be more effort from staff to make this place a gem. There were no hairdryers in the shared shower bathrooms, no coffee available until the dining room opened at 8am, and the pool (while saltwater) seemed to need a pump or something to refresh the water.... The rustic feel of this Inn is perfect for the spectacular location. Our room had a king sized bed with our own sink and toilet, but showers are in a shared bathroom. The views from this lodge and from walking around the 'neighborhood' are just amazing. Breakfast was great as well.

My Husband and I were invited by our friends who visit often, It was my first visit to Maine and I was very pleased with our whole trip, Our stay at these cozy little cottages was romantic, scenic, the smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves was the romantic part. The charm of the old rustic rooms... More

Quaint, Rustic....peaceful. Like going back in time. Unique. Our family have been going there for over 100 years! Right! Right on Casco Bay which is open to the Ocean, great big breakfasts and full dinners. Meals are optional, but who can resist starting your morning overlooking the ocean. The building are very old, but rooms have been updated, some with... More

If you don't like the idea of the sound of waves all night, or if you don't like the idea that there might be a folk-singing community stopping in for the night to sing songs in the lodge library, you are welcome to stay at a golf resort somewhere. Actually, please don't stay here. But if you have anything beautiful... More

Over the last 10 years, I visit this inn at least once a year in mid-June or in early October in order to avoid the summer Maine mob scene. The rooms at each of their two old buildings right on the cove/inlet are small but well maintained. It's worth the extra money to get a room facing the water so... More
