We just spent 2 nights at Number 56 with Julie & David. Thank you for being such wonderful hosts. It was like being at long time friends home. Our guide, Peter Jones of Singlesteptours.com booked us into Number 56 as Peter led us around the Somme. A perfect stop. From the first glass of wine to the last homemade breakfast-it... More

We have just returned from a weekend with Julie and David and can only agree with all the previous reviews here. Number 56 is a wonderful place to stay and is the perfect place from which to tour Somme and surrounding area. From the minute we arrived on Saturday we were greeted with cool drinks and a warm welcome. David... More

Julie and David are an English couple who run this charming B&B right in the heart of the Somme. We felt welcome right from the start and enjoyed a delicious evening meal before retiring to a great night’s sleep. We awoke to birdsong in the garden and the horses in a back field poking their noses over for some bread.... More

This is a truly superb place to stay on the Somme. David and Julie were kindness personified and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are clean and and comfortable with little extras such and toiletries, and a weather forecast left on our bed each night so that we knew what to expect the next day. A delicious breakfast is... More

This is a first class place to stay if you want to explore the Somme battlefield. It couldn't be more conveniently situated: on the very front line. From the window, we could see the infamous Mash Valley, Orvillers cemetery and the Thiepval Memorial brooding on the distant hill. You can walk to the extraordinary Lochnagar Crater. Julie and David were... More

This is definitely the best B&B anywhere, Julie and David are the most accommodating hosts you'll ever find. Their knowledge of the history of the area is second to none. I'm always sad to leave, but I am definitely going back.
