The contrasts between Whitney, Houmas, and Madewood were striking and illuminating. One gets a feeling of despair at Whitney, "Disneyland" at Houmas, and of history at Madewood, where the plantation house is now a small (in number of rooms) bed and breakfast. One sleeps in rooms furnished with period pieces and updated with bathrooms and space heaters. Electrical conduits adorn... More

We just returned from Madewood Plantation and for four days I felt like Scarlett O'Hara at Tara. Madewood is majestic inside and out! We were wined and dined by Angie who is such a gem and obviously loves the house. We stayed in the Master Suite upstairs because of the balcony but any room is just as nice and full... More

We spent two nights in this marvelous place with our three kids. This home and its furnitures take you back in time, with a very nice staff. We had also a very good supper shared with the other friendly guests. We'll come back !

This is the most beautiful antebellum home I've seen in Louisiana! We stayed here 2 nights and had the optional dinner in the dining room. The food was adequate and plentiful. The bedroom on the main floor is large and gorgeous. There are 4 large bedrooms upstairs. The two on front have options to walk out on to the front... More

Wonderful experience and my first time staying in a plantation home. I adored all the rooms and touring the grounds. Lovely home and meals were fun and fabulous Meeting the owner at cocktail time and again at breakfast was very special

My husband and I felt completely at home from the moment we entered the door of this charming home. Keith, the unpretentious owner, and Angie, manager and cook extraordinaire, go out of their way to ensure that each guest has a memorable stay. Angie even called us before our arrival to be sure that she could work around my husband's... More

Madewood Plantation is a short drive from New Orleans and it was a pretty drive to reach it. You passed sugarcane field after sugarcane field which were in different stages of growing or harvesting. The plantation itself is set far enough back from the road that noise is not an issue. While we waited for the check-in, we explored the... More

I've stayed overnight at Madewood twice so far. I adore Greek Revival houses in the deep south and this one is a real beauty. It doesn't get all the fanfare that Oaks Alley or Nottoway plantations do, and that is fine with me. Spending the night here offers some marvelous experiences. You're invited to cocktail hour in a lovely social... More

Stayed here for 2 nights with a group of friends. The house itself is stunning and yes has a few quirks and is a little lived in. But for me that's the point here at madewood you are not in a museum you are invited in to share the whole house from your room to the living areas. Many of... More

I have stayed at Madewood several times and will always return there for the magical experience it provides. It is unlike other plantations I have visited in that it is like staying in someone's home. The experience there provides wine and cheese before dinner, a sit-down wonderfully prepared dinner and coffee and drinks after dinner. A full sit-down plantation breakfast... More
