Reading Tripadvisor reviews you sometime need to be quite critical about the reviewers. There was some quirky remarks on Bois de Chene. Dark, dogs, run down etc. I do not what these people expected. It it is a old house, yes, but with a lot of charm. Everything functioned perfectly and was clean. Breakfast was great and tasty. I found... More

The best thing about the Bois des Chenes is the hosts, Coerte and Marjorie Voorhies. Coerte greeted us with warmth and friendliness, and took us up to our large, comfortable room in the main house. Coerte's family has been in the area for generations, and over the next two days we enjoyed his stories of the area as well as... More

We always stay here every time we go to Lafayette, & if they're booked when we're planning on going, we pick another date - our room & the owners make us that happy. Nestled under massive oaks, you feel like you're the only ones there. Remember it was once a plantation, & has been kept to that simple & rustic... More

We stayed at Bois des Chenes for 2 nights where we were given a room in the carriage house. The room itself was spacious and very romantic. However, the room was quite damp/musty and needed a good airing. The bathroom was adequate and there was a small cupboard with a fridge and complimentary water. We got a very nice home-cooked... The Voohries' are always welcoming & hospitable - both are so sweet & delightful! Location was once a plantation, now secretly tucked into an older residential neighborhood, but you'd never know it - surrounded by beautiful giant trees, flora, & fauna, as well as above, on a corner lot. Has a simple Cajun antiques motif. Parking right in front of... More

We stayed at Bois des Chenes one night on an excursion to Cajun Country from New Orleans. Next time, we will stay there again! The room was great: spacious, interestingly decorated, and our sleep was so restful on that comfortable large mattress! This B & B is on the outskirts of Lafayette, in a quiet peaceful area, and the experience... More

A warm welcome, a clean comfortable room, interesting conversation and fantastic breakfasts. They run good bayou trips too. Thanks to the Voorhies family (and the friendly visiting racoons) for adding to our Louisiana experience.

We arrived in late afternoon and were planning to stay four nights. We had been led here by a NY Times review of Acadiana. The property is not at all what we were led to expect. First, it is nowhere near the center of town. In fact, it is in a very poor section of town hard by the very... More

I decided to book at this B & B despite some mixed reviews. Although the owner was happy to take our reservation for a Xmas day arrival, he seemed angry when we appeared, telling me that he doesn't usually take bookings at Xmas. He brought us to the carriage house. When I asked about rooms in the main house, he told... More

Ordinarily we do not take guests Christmas day! Told the person that when first asked for the reservation. However, she told me that she understood that it was Christmas but would we make an exception. I told her the rooms only, no breakfast the next morning as we had family in. She arrived, the first people were her son and... More

A graceful old plantation home with galleries overlooking the grounds and surrounding neighborhoods. We stayed in a mini-suite with charming antiques, upstairs in the main house. The Voorhies -- owners and genial hosts -- served splendid Southern breakfasts and tales of the history, flora and fauna of the area. A very good choice for travelers who enjoy an authentic experience.
