Its a pretty good hostel. I can kind of imagine the people who own the place making a fair bit from this, 30 dollars a pop or whatever it is, lots of people there its almost always booked up, all the staff work for free and the costomors help out with the chores at the end of an evening. However... More

Great place for low cost backpackers but nothing for people who are ussually staying in hotels. Very nice servis from woofers. Breakfast for 3 NZD, lunch and dinner for 6 NZD. Wooden bath, eco garden, compost, fire place, nice decorations, nice people. What do you need more? :)

I absolutely loved this place - stayed here for a few nights - the best thing about staying here is the vibe with the people. Real community, loved the communal dinners. Great experience. Wish I could've stayed longer. Would be good if the wi-fi was stronger and free

For some, 7 days is plenty. For most, 7 days is just the beginning, middle, or end of someone’s journey. People come here and don’t want to leave. If they do leave, they come back at some point during their travels. If you’re a gardener (or want to be gardener), this is place is paradise. There is SO much life... More

My stay at Fat Cat was probably not the norm for your average backpacker because I was studying at the University of Auckland at the time. However my experience here was invaluable and it truly is difficult to put words to the experience. Let's get the negatives out of the way: If you are looking for perfect cleanliness, your own... When booking this place I already had a good feeling about it. I had no idea how much better my experience would be. I expected a nice alternative hostel but what I found was a amazing backpackers community. Everybody is more then friendly and will try to help you and a lot of nice things are provided. It is a... Great really friendly, helpful, relaxed atmosphere, so easy to meet people, staff are actually travellers who stay for longer, so they know how to create a home. Very clean, organised (old, everything is recycled, but better like that). It's a small organic farm - great gardens for relaxing and chickens for fresh eggs!! Fire bath amazing!! I felt really really... More

we stayed there twice for a week each time and liked it very much. probably the only backpacker where you end up, if you wish, knowing most people there. owners and staff very friendly and helpful, but dont see this as a hostel. it s an open minded community of people who like a different approach to life and a... It certainly was not for us! A lot of the people there seemed to love it! I found it dirty&dusty (brought on BOTH of our allergies pretty strongly). The kitchen is TINY and making food is such an ordeal due to this. When we arrived we were told they had given our room to people who had arrived without a... More

We eventually arrived in the middle of nowhere and found a dump. We had booked a private twin room but this was actually a double bed in a freezing, damp and filthy caravan. Not what we booked! I can't be completely sure but I'm 90% certain I overheard them saying the people who had been in a caravan didn't like... More
