It's ok if you don't mind the roar of boat motors early in the morning and sometimes late afternoon. My father always liked this place, but for us, we are private people and like quiet and relaxation. Went one time to swim in the water & had to avoid so much dog poop on the beach. That was not fun... More

The first thing that attracted me to the Zilpo and Twin Knob campgrounds are the private campsites, secluded amongst the trees and brush. At other campgrounds in KY I have found campsite loops with no privacy between sites. Still, if you don't have a boat at Zilpo campground, you might be missing out on the fun. I'm not sure what... I spent three nights at Zilpo in the prefab cabins (D loop, #123). We enjoyed our stay there but came with very low expectations given previous visitors' reviews. The pros about this place are that it is in the middle of beautiful wilderness of Daniel Boone National Forest. The Forest is spectacular and varied; and well-worth a 3 day visit.... More

We spent one night and a half day at Zilpo campground and I would like to inform everyone about the risks of swimming in Cave Run Lake. Because of the geese living on the beach of the recreational area, the lake is contaminated with certain bacteria that cause swimmer's itch. I contracted it and am now covered with very itchy... Restrooms were dirty & had mold on the walls. Previous complaint had the facility paint over the mold. Our next trip the mold was back. Hosts are not readily available. Trash along shoreline bordering campgrounds. We have loved this campground for years but it has fallen apart this year.

My family stayed two nights in one of the small, electric cabins. It was very nice! Nothing fancy, 2 bunkbeds, a small table and chairs, a room air conditioner, a nice sized covered porch as well. It was very well kept and clean, inside and out. The camp hosts were very nice. One of them even heard my 2 year... More

My family and I have been wanting to go camping at Cave Run Lake for the past couple of years. We decided on Zilpo because it is a little more secluded than Twin Knobs. Be prepared for a bit of a long drive on curvy roads to get to Zilpo, but it is worth the drive. Try not to forget... More

My family and I have planned a camping trip to zilpo for 4 years now. We have already been there once this year and planning to go back before summer is over. The camp sites are very spacious and clean. There are bathhouses and bathrooms that are walking distance. We have stayed in B,G,F,H loop. It is a very quiet... More

Beautiful area and lake. Stayed in the H loop. Camp sites are well maintained. The restroom facilities are clean but are showing age. There are hot showers. The one big problem for me was a lot of garbage, mostly bottles on shore that was washed up by high water. No signs of any attempts to clean it up by the... More

I have been camping at Zilpo on a regular basis for 4 years now and I have found that it is safe and secure. Bathhouses in H are the best of all loops. I have never had an issue with ticks, nor critters like snakes when coming here. I always enjoy the deer and other wildlife that is usually present.... More
