Although a flood put most of the campground under water, it was in pretty good shape. Stayed in H loop for three days this past weekend. I have been coming to Zilpo yearly since 1985 and love the campground. The host do an excellent job, are very personable and friendly and do a great job keeping the sites looking nice.... More

The campground was a bit flooded when we camped this past weekend but it was still a great time. The sites are mostly secluded even though the U.S. Forest Service had to go in and cut down a few trees for safety reasons and clean up from the recent storms. When we arrived the park had experienced very severe weather... More

I actually have not been to Zilpo in years, but have a trip planned. I think visitors should be reminded that this is not a "State Park"...it is managed by the National Forest Service. It is a primitive campground, which is why I love it, but it operates on very little money. I am saddened to hear of an abundance... More

It was raining during our stay. We rented one of the small cabins with the intentions of putting up my tent outside. The rain prevented that from happening. The cabin was ok, but don't expect a Hotel room it is bare bones but does have heat and air. The campground is several miles back in the woods but the views... More

This campground is wonderful! It's very large and all sites have ample spacing between them. All sites come with a firepit, picnic table, and two latern posts. The tent areas are large and well set up for tents up to 12x12. The restrooms were clean, really clean. The shower heads leave much to be desired, but it was too cold... More

Overall, my family enjoyed the stay at Zilpo. No gas or Walmart for miles, so come prepared. I have a few kids and another kids was staying with us so I researched how many folks can sleep in a cabin as I could not find any photos of the cabin's bunks. I purposely took a photo of the bunk room... More

It's ok if you don't mind the roar of boat motors early in the morning and sometimes late afternoon. My father always liked this place, but for us, we are private people and like quiet and relaxation. Went one time to swim in the water & had to avoid so much dog poop on the beach. That was not fun... More

The first thing that attracted me to the Zilpo and Twin Knob campgrounds are the private campsites, secluded amongst the trees and brush. At other campgrounds in KY I have found campsite loops with no privacy between sites. Still, if you don't have a boat at Zilpo campground, you might be missing out on the fun. I'm not sure what... I spent three nights at Zilpo in the prefab cabins (D loop, #123). We enjoyed our stay there but came with very low expectations given previous visitors' reviews. The pros about this place are that it is in the middle of beautiful wilderness of Daniel Boone National Forest. The Forest is spectacular and varied; and well-worth a 3 day visit.... More

We spent one night and a half day at Zilpo campground and I would like to inform everyone about the risks of swimming in Cave Run Lake. Because of the geese living on the beach of the recreational area, the lake is contaminated with certain bacteria that cause swimmer's itch. I contracted it and am now covered with very itchy...
