I loved everything about this place. The trails were amazing and the docents were very knowledgeable. I startled a deer on a trail and he jumped into a pond to swim away. You don't get that at a hotel.

I wrote a review of the Shaker Village lodging and dining in 2011, giving the place two stars and suggesting that one consider other options. I recently stayed at the inn in connection with the Chamber Music Festival of the Bluegrass. It was clear to me that, since 2011, the management has made a concerted effort to improve the inn... Choose Shaker Village if you enjoy quietude, birdsong in the morning, and a walkable location. We attended presentations about Shaker music and organic farming, enjoyed all of our meals at the Trustees' Office, and just enjoyed walking around. We did some hiking at a nearby preserve on the river palisades, and had a relaxing weekend.

It sounds odd maybe to describe a Shaker village as luxurious, but the quiet, the simplicity, the good food, and the nice people make it so. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are modern, and the beds are comfy. The decor is simple, simple, simple, befitting the Shakers, but with large screen TV and air conditioning. Walk to meals at... More

We spent two nights at Shaker Village as a kick off to a two week road trip we dubbed "The Magical History Tour". We were both exhausted mentally and physically after a very rough six months that included the deaths of two immediate family members. This was a great place to start our trip. We stayed in the Cooper's House... More

We had visited Pleasant Hill in the early 90's. We stayed overnight with kids and they had a great time with the cats that they found. This visit was a disappointment...On our first visit, the guides were in costume; many more buildings were open; there was instruction and talks in each building that was open. It almost seemed that many... More

Despite some bad weather we have had the most wonderful stay at Shaker Village. Our room had a historic Shaker feel to it with new tempurpedic beds. We had an amazing night sleep. Dinner in the Trustee's room was excellent. I highly recommend the Hot Brown. The views are incredible and we had a great time walking around the village... More

Wonderfully kept and functional historic buildings in a spacious and serene setting. A window on a unique 19th century life style. The wandering animals warmed the heart of this old farm boy. Many crafts to observe. Looking forward to bringing the grandkids.

Stayed in the East Family Washhouse. It was a suite with every comfort. Games to play. It was a step back in time! I would highly suggest making this a stop on your next trip through Kentucky. We ate dinner in town but breakfast on site was superb.

We stayed over night with our kids (age 10, 7, 4 and 2) and loved every minute of the experience. Our suite was beautiful and roomy. The kids loved all the hands on activities and meeting the new born animals. The kids said several time during the visit that they hope we can come back some day! The staff was... More
