This B & B was originally the Montauban railway station that saw the Allied Troops delivered by rail to one of the many front lines in France during World War 1. An excellent location that will make you feel personally involved when you set out to explore the many battlefields and rural areas in this region. It is central to... More

This B&B is perfectly situated if you are looking to explore some of the sites of the Somme as it is virtually on The Circuit of Remembrance - a driving trail that takes you around the major WW1 sites of the area including Devils Wood, Beaumont-Hamel and Thiepval. It is also close to the Lochnagar Crater. We stayed in the... More

I stayed in Bernafay Wood for three nights in February by myself. I had rented a car and was travelling around the local war sights of The Somme - the b&b is perfectly located right in the middle of all of it. Only less than 15 minutes drive from Albert, a gorgeous nearby town. The b&b is also steeped in... More

Bernafay Wood B&B provides an excellent base from which to tour the WW1 battlefields of the Somme. It is located pretty much in the centre of the battlefield area, so whether you are interested in the 1916 battles or those of 1917 or 1918, you can easily access all of them. We had no trouble finding the B&B, with a... More

As two couples we booked to stay here last year when we visited the Somme on our return trip from camping at the Classic 24 hr Le Mon in July 2012. Whilst we had not known of anyone particularly involved in WW1 we were all very interested in visiting the area to gain an understanding of the Battles. When we... More

For anyone looking explore battlefields of Somme this is a wonderful location. Set in an old railway station in Bernafay Wood, this B&B is superb. The owner Christine is very helpful. Our on suggestion would be to provide a BBQ in rear garden for guests' use.

Just returned from three days at Bernafay Wood B&B. It is an ideal location for studying the Somme battlefields. The owner - Christine - is very efficient, helpful and knowledgeable. The guest house is just within the wood itself and is the renovated former Montauban railway station. It has a wonderfully authentic atmosphere and is also clean, comfortable and secure.

Returning after many years to find this fine old building is still as you would hope for. If you want chrome and power showers try elsewhere, but for a very old building, in a wood fought for on the first day of the Somme battle in July,1916, you cannot get more atmospheric. Traditional French furnishings add to the appeal. Christine... More

We visited again this year--2 couples and a single--and I couldn't help notice when signing the guest book that MOST of the guests were repeaters like us. It is still the best value on the Somme. Though almost every one raved about the personalized service, the breakfast--the history, the proximity to the battlefields, and Christine's helpful tips--I noticed on this... More
