To be fair, we did not actually stay here. We stopped here before going to the Super 8 because we try to support local establishments rather than chains. However, after reading a few reviews of this place, I was concerned about the cleanliness of the rooms. My husband asked if we could see a room prior to deciding on whether... More

Stayed here this past weekend to attend the ISU/Iowa Football game in Ames. Opted for this place because I grew up in the area and had great memories of this place (a long, long time ago). Let me start by saying that I do not require fancy hotels, so that was not what I was looking for. I understood this... More

While this older facility is not outstanding in amenities, it offers exactly what it is supposed to---- a good night's sleep. What sets it apart is the great service provided by Mike and Kirti, the on-site owners. With prior approval they had agreed that I could leave my vehicle in their parking lot for a couple of extra days while... More

I have stayed at the Viking for over 30 years. It is very clean and an excellent value. My last few years have been hunting trips and they welcome pets and have a great exercise area in the back. The staff is super nice and always remember you when you return. The breakfast is fine. Nice to have coffee and... More

This Hotel has pleasantness and cleanliness written all over it. To the people complaining about a missing topsheet: It is clear, that you have never been in a top Hotel or a Top cruise ship ! They all use down comforters. The cover over the down comforter is changed with every guest and is a lot classier then a topsheet... More

Stayed here once --the place is in dire need of updating. Rooms are large but appear to be vintage 1960's. There are good places to eat nearby but that was a bout the only plus. Would stay again only if nothing else was available

Rooms are cheap and basic but Mike the manager is eager to please. We had spent 9 hrs in the car and just wanted to crash. the rooms were decent and reasonably priced. Mike is a real character and loves cricket and Aussies and nothing was too much trouble. $49 bucks a night with a continental breakfast thrown in is... More

We decided to try this Motel because it was $13 less than the national chain motel that we had stayed in previously. The only complaint that I have is that there was no top sheet. Instead there was just a comforter which got a little to warm. Other than that, the room was clean, the staff friendly and they had... More

Not a good value.‎‎ I am not sure which motel the other reviewer was in but they were not in this one. Based on the apparently "padded" review I decided to skip the national chain motels in the area for this one. It was roughly $18 cheaper but not worth the savings. The rooms are dated and the bed did... More

Excellent hotel in a little town. This area is mainly a gas stop and has a couple of expensive chain hotels at the exit. Viking Hotel is a gem. Clean non-smoking rooms, free DVD rentals for the night, free popcorn, friendly staff, pets allowed for $5, free continental breakfast, free highsped internet, free cable, and all for $55 per night.
